The Philadelphia Eagles celebrate their seventh win against the Pittsburgh Steelers and remain the NFL’s only unbeaten team. The Miami Dolphins manage a comeback win against the Detroit Lions. The most curious game, however, occurred between the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Falcons.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Philadelphia Eagles 13:35
The Philadelphia Eagles celebrate their seventh win in the seventh game and remain the best team in the NFL. Quarterback Jalen Hurts excelled with 285 passing yards and four touchdown passes.
After the Steelers’ first drive ended with a three-and-out, the Eagles’ offense was effective right away. A.J. Brown caught a touchdown pass from Jalen Hurts for 39 yards. The Steelers equalised with Derek Watt catching a touchdown pass from Chase Claypool. The Eagles were unfazed. Brown caught two more touchdown passes from Hurts before halftime. Philadelphia went into the break with a 21-10 lead.
The Eagles continued their effectiveness at the start of the third quarter. This time Zach Pascal caught a touchdown pass from Hurts and extended the lead to 28:10. A fumble by Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett again put the Eagles in favourable field position. Miles Sanders ran into the end zone, so that the game was finally decided at an intermediate score of 35:13.
Miami Dolphins at Detroit Lions 31:27
Detroit got off to a blistering start: Jamaal Williams gave the Lions the lead with a run into the end zone on the very first drive. The next offensive drive also ended in the end zone. This time, quarterback Jared Goff fed wide receiver D’Andre Swift, who was recovering from an injury. Miami answered with a touchdown pass from Tua Tagovailoa to Jaylen Waddle.
Goff continued to lead his offense down the field with a working passing game on the third drive, allowing Williams to eventually run in his second touchdown. The Dolphins also remained effective, with Waddle catching his second touchdown pass from Tagovailoa. Detroit went into the break with a 27-17 lead.
The Dolphins turned the game around in the third period. First Alec Ingold got into the end zone, then Mike Gesicki caught a touchdown pass – 31:27 for Miami. This also remained the final score. German wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown caught seven passes for 69 yards.
Las Vegas Raiders at New Orleans Saints 0:24
After going without a touchdown so far this season, Alvin Kamara was the most noticeable man on the field this time. First he ran himself into the end zone, later he caught a touchdown pass from Andy Dalton. The Raiders, on the other hand, remained scoreless, so that New Orleans led 17-0 at halftime.
After halftime, Kamara continued his winning streak. On a similar play to the second quarter, he caught another touchdown pass from Dalton to give New Orleans a 24-0 lead. The last quarter of the game remained scoreless.
Chicago Bears at Dallas Cowboys 29:49
The Cowboys made it into the end zone on the very first drive in the person of quarterback Dak Prescott. On the following offensive drive, Dallas added a touchdown pass from Prescott to CeeDee Lamb. Bears quarterback Justin Fields cut the deficit to 7-14 by running into the end zone himself.
The Cowboys’ offence was unstoppable. The third and fourth drives also resulted in a touchdown – first by a run by Tony Pollard, then by a pass from Prescott to Jake Ferguson. With 40 seconds left in the half, the Bears cut the deficit to 14-28 when N’Keal Harry caught a touchdown pass from Fields. Prescott then threw an interception. Chicago took advantage of this for a field goal at the half-time score of 17:28.
In the third quarter, Khalil Herbert scored a touchdown to bring the score to 23-28, but the ensuing two-point conversion was unsuccessful. The Cowboys pulled back to 35:23 with Pollard’s second touchdown. When Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons picked up a fumble and carried it into the end zone, the game was already decided at 42-23. Pollard completed the game with his third touchdown to make it 49:29.
Arizona Cardinals at Minnesota Vikings 26:34
Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins provided the first points, running 17 yards into the end zone. In the second quarter, Johnny Mundt caught a touchdown pass from Cousins. With 47 seconds left in the half, the Cardinals cut the deficit to 10-14 when DeAndre Hopkins caught a touchdown pass from Kyler Murray. That was the score going into halftime.
The third quarter saw two lead changes. First Zach Ertz caught a touchdown pass for the Cardinals, then Alexander Mattison got into the end zone for the Vikings – 21:17 for Minnesota. Dalvin Cook extended the lead to 28:17 with a touchdown.
But the game was far from decided. Rondale Moore caught a touchdown pass to bring the Cardinals within five points. However, the two-point conversion failed. Arizona reduced the deficit to 26-28 with a field goal in the fourth quarter.
Cousins threw another touchdown pass, this time to K.J. Osborn, so that the Vikings pulled away again to 34:26. Because the extra point attempt failed, they remained within striking distance for the Cardinals. However, Arizona could not take advantage of this.
Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons 34:47 n.O.
After the Panthers scored the first points on a field goal in the first drive, the Falcons scored the first touchdown of the game in the second period. Kyle Pitts caught a short pass from Marcus Mariota and got into the end zone. D’Onta Foreman made it into the end zone for the first time for the Panthers and gave Carolina a 10-7 lead.
41 seconds before halftime, however, Panthers quarterback PJ Walker threw a pick six that was carried back into the end zone by Lorenzo Carter. Atlanta went into the break with a 14-10 lead. In the third quarter Mariota managed his second touchdown pass. This time Tyler Allgeier was the target, so that the Falcons led 21:13.
The Panthers took a gamble when they went for it on fourth down at the opposing 1-yard line. They were rewarded with a touchdown by D’Onta Foreman and a successful two-point conversion to make it 21-21.
The leads changed back and forth as the game progressed. A field goal put the Falcons back in front by three points. The Panthers responded with D’Onta Foreman’s third touchdown to make it 28-24, the Falcons with a touchdown pass to Damiere Byrd to make it 31-28. A field goal extended the lead to 34-28 with 36 seconds left in the game.
But the Panthers were not beaten. Walker threw an incredible 62-yard touchdown pass to DJ Moore to make it 34-34 and an extra point could have decided the game. But Eddy Pineiro’s shot landed next to the goalposts. The game went into overtime.
Mariota got the offensive right with Atlanta first, but threw an interception. Another time Pineiro could have decided the game in favour of the Pantgers with a placed shot. But his field goal attempt of 33 yards also missed the target. Younghoe Koo was more accurate and scored the Falcons with a 41-yard field goal to win the game.
