Munich – In the Sunday Night Football Game, the Philadelphia Eagles narrowly beat the Green Bay Packers. The Eagles won the points festival 40:33.
The two teams really got going in the first quarter. First, the Eagles scored two touchdowns with a 4-yard run by running back Kenneth Gainwell and a 15-yard run by position mate Miles Sanders. After that, the Packers offence around star quarterback Aaron Rodgers also got going. A 20-yard rushing touchdown by running back AJ Dillon was followed by an eleven-yard touchdown catch by wide receiver Randall Cobb.
Shooting continues
The second quarter was a lively one. Sanders gave the Eagles the lead again with a touchdown, then Green Bay’s Aaron Jones levelled the score at 20:20 with a 23-yard catch. Both kickers had missed a PAT in the meantime. Then, 13 seconds before the break, “Philly” scored another touchdown on a 30-yard pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts to receiver Quez Watkins to take the lead at the break.
The third quarter was comparatively quiet. Star receiver AJ Brown scored a touchdown on a 6-yard catch to make it 34-20 and Packers kicker Mason Crosby kicked a field goal to cut the lead to 23-34.
Worries about Rodgers
There was a shock moment for the Packers in the third quarter when Rodgers had to leave the field with an abdominal muscle injury and did not return. Backup Jordan Love came into the game for the veteran quarterback.
In the fourth quarter, Eagles kicker Jake Elliott kicked a field goal to restore the lead. But Green Bay did not give in and scored a 63-yard touchdown by rookie receiver Christian Watson. At the end of the game, Elliott kicked a field goal for three more Eagles points. With about a minute to go, Crosby also scored again for the Packers to make the final score 33:40.
Hurts with 157 Rushing Yards
Rodgers had thrown two interceptions before his injury and is now at nine interceptions this season. His counterpart Hurts had four more yards passing (157) than rushing (153).
The Eagles thus extend their record to 10-1 and continue to lead the NFC East. The Packers are third in the NFC North with a record of 4-8.
