A New York Giants returner is the big jinx in their loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The Washington Commanders turn the game around in the final minutes at the Indianpolos Colts. ran recaps the late plays from Week 8.
New York Giants at Seattle Seahawks 13:27
In the duel of two surprise teams, the Seattle Seahawks prevailed. Quarterback Geno Smith threw for 212 yards and two touchdowns. Daniel Jones, the Giants’ passer, completed only 17 of his 31 passes for 176 yards and no touchdowns.
After both teams’ offences failed to get into the game at all in the first quarter, the Seahawks provided the first points in the second period. DK Metcalf caught a short touchdown pass from Geno Smith.
As the 2nd quarter progressed, both teams blatantly lost the ball. Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett committed a fumble just outside his own end zone. Saquon Barkley took advantage of the good situation to get into the end zone and level the game.
When the Seahawks were forced to punt on the following drive, Giants returner Richie James suffered a fumble on his own 19-yard line. The Seahawks were able to use this for a field goal to take a 10-7 lead into halftime.
At the beginning of the third quarter, the Giants’ offense put together a long 14-play drive that resulted in a 31-yard field goal to make it 10-10. In the following drive of the Seahawks, Lockett let an almost certain touchdown pass slip through, so that Seattle could also only score a field goal.
So it remained a duel of the kickers: Jason Myers scored from 51 yards and brought the Seahawks back into the lead with 13:10. Graham Gano then scored from 45 yards for the Giants – 13:13.
The first touchdown of the 2nd half came with just over nine minutes to go. The Seahawks showed more willingness to pass vertically in this phase and were rewarded when Smith managed a 33-yard touchdown pass to Lockett. Seattle thus took the lead for the fourth time in the game, this time with 20:13.
When the Seahawks punted with just over six minutes left in the game, Giants returner Richie James lost his second fumble, allowing Seattle to start at the opposing 32-yard line. Just two plays later, Kenneth Walker caught a touchdown pass to give Seattle a 27-13 lead. After that, the Giants never found their way back into the game.
The Seahawks improve their record to five wins and three losses. The Giants conceded their second loss of the season, but have a remarkable six wins to their credit.
Tennessee Titans at Houston Texans 17:10
The Tennessee Titans are celebrating their fifth win against the Houston Texans, but struggled mightily in the process. Backup quarterback Malik Willis only managed 55 passing yards and threw an interception. But the running game was very effective with a total of 314 yards. Derrick Henry alone accounted for 219 yards and two touchdowns.
Texans quarterback Davis Mills had 152 passing yards, one touchdown pass and one interception. Brandin Cooks caught passes for 73 yards. Houston stands at a 1-5-1 record after seven games.
Washington Commanders at Indianapolis Colts 17:16
The Washington Commanders turned around an almost certain defeat in the final quarter. With eleven minutes left in the game, Nyheim Hines gave the Colts a 16-7 lead with a touchdown. In the last five minutes, however, Washington turned up the heat.
Joey Slye Made reduced the deficit to 10:16 with a field goal, and with only 22 seconds left in the game, Commanders quarterback Taylor Heinicke scored a touchdown himself. With the following and decisive extra point, they won the game.
Heinicke also recorded 279 passing yards, a touchdown pass and an interception. Colts passer Sam Ehlinger threw for 201 yards. Washington stands at a record of four wins and four losses, while the Colts are 3-4-1.
San Francisco 49ers at Los Angeles Rams 31-14
The San Francisco 49ers have handed the reigning Super Bowl champions from Los Angeles a negative record of 3-4. The Californians themselves stand at an even four wins and four losses.
49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo recorded 235 passing yards and two touchdown passes. Running back Christian McCaffrey achieved the triple with a thrown touchdown pass, a caught touchdown pass and a run touchdown. In all, he provided 149 yards of space.
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford recorded 187 passing yards and one touchdown pass. Los Angeles’ running game was not a factor, gaining just 56 yards of space.
