After four defeats already this season, the Kansas City Chiefs can be happy about a victory at the end of the eighth NFL game day. But the Chiefs have a hard time against the New York Giants for a long time.
Munich – Relief for the Kansas City Chiefs. Head coach Andy Reid’s team was able to enjoy a win again after the last defeat against the Titans. At the end of the eighth NFL game day, the Chiefs won the Monday Night Game against the New York Giants with 20:17.
However, the success of the Super Bowl winners of 2019 was on shaky ground. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes caused another turnover. For the signal caller, it was already the seventh game in a row with at least one interception.
He had never had to endure such a long series before, neither in the NFL nor in college. He also recorded a career-low of just 2.1 yards per completion.
Turnovers by Mahomes and Jones
In the game between Kansas City and the Giants, penalties played a major role in addition to several turnovers on both sides – Giants quarterback Daniel Jones was also responsible for an interception and a fumble. The Giants were cautioned ten times for 88 yards, the Chiefs even conceded twelve penalties for a total of 103 yards.
For a long time it looked as if the visitors from New York would win the game at Arrowhead Stadium. After a rushing touchdown by Kyle Rudolph, a field goal by kicker Graham Gano and a passing touchdown from Jones to Evan Engram, the Giants had led 17:14 until the middle of the fourth period.
Kicker Butker gives Chiefs win
With just under nine minutes remaining, the home side equalised with a field goal from Harrison Butker, and with just over a minute remaining the 26-year-old gave his team the lead and the final score.
Besides Butker, a 3-yard run by Derrick Gore and a touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes to Tyreek Hill had provided the points for the home side.
With a record of 4-4, the Chiefs are in third place in the AFC West, while the New York Giants are last in the NFC East with two wins and six losses.
