It got really dramatic in the divisional duel between the Arizona Cardinals and the Seattle Seahawks. First the hosts saved themselves into extra time, where they only scored in the second attempt.
In the Sunday Night Game of Week 7, the Seattle Seahawks also scored for the first time. Head Coach Pete Carroll’s team lost to divisional rival Arizona Cardinals for the first time this season – and in a highly dramatic fashion. 20 seconds before overtime, kicker Zane Gonzalez converted the winning field goal from 48 yards to 37:34 (34:34, 17:27).
The guests had already led twice in the first half with 13 points ahead (20:7 and 27:14) and a good four minutes before the end with ten points (34:24). They collected more passing (372 to 360) and rushing yards (200 to 159) and were on the ball almost ten minutes longer.
Three interceptions by Wilson – Lockett with 200 yards
But Russell Wilson (388 passing yards for three touchdowns) wobbled this time and made three interceptions, the last one in overtime. Even a day’s work by Tyler Lockett, who caught 15 passes for 200 yards and three touchdowns, didn’t help.
For the “Cards”, Kyler Murray scored 360 passing yards for three touchdowns in one interception, plus 67 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Playmaker also had a fumble.
Hopkins undermines fumble – Fitzgerald does not score
The most productive receiver was Christian Kirk, who scored two touchdowns at 37 yards. DeAndre Hopkins caught 103-yard passes with touchdowns, but also turned his team around with a fumble. Larry Fitzgerald (62 receiving yards) was left without a score.
Gonzalez became a hero twice – first he scored from 44 yards to equalize two seconds before the end of the fourth quarter, then he missed from 41 yards in overtime to score from a slightly further distance with 20 seconds left on the clock.
The Seahawks remain at the top of the NFC West with five wins and one defeat, but the Cardinals (5-2) have taken the heat. In week 8 Seattle will play the San Francisco 49ers, Arizona will be off the field.
