In the fifth NFL game day, the Dolphins, Saints and Lions win comfortably, while the Colts and Steelers win tight divisional duels.

New York Giants @ Miami Dolphins 16:31

After a disappointing loss to the Buffalo Bills, the Miami Dolphins managed a bounceback win against the New York Giants.

The Dolphins’ offence once again posted outstanding numbers: 524 yards, four touchdowns and a lot of big plays. Running back De’von Achane raced away from the entire Giants defence for his 76-yard touchdown, Tyreek Hill exploded twice for a +60-yard catch, including a 69-yard touchdown. Raheem Mostert delivered another more than steady performance with twelve runs for 78 yards.

However, the game remained closer than expected due to the Dolphins’ many turnovers. Tua Tagovailoa threw two interceptions and Giants safety Jason Pinnock carried one pick 102 yards from end zone to end zone. But that remained the only touchdown for the Giants, who struggled more than a little offensively. Quarterback Daniel Jones was sacked six times and threw for a weak 119 yards.

Miami Dolphins win fourth game of season, New York Giants fall to 1-4

New Orleans Saints @ New England Patriots 34-0

The game between the Saints and Patriots had billed itself as a great defensive battle, but in the end there was only a bit of that on one side.

The Saints’ defence set the tone early on: In the first quarter, safety Tyrann Mathieu intercepted a Mac Jones pass and carried it back for the first touchdown of the game. It was the start of a horrendous day for the Patriots quarterback, who was benched in the fourth quarter at 0:31 with 110 passing yards, two interceptions and a lost fumble.

Offensively, the Saints didn’t put on a masterful performance, but did more than enough to keep the game in total control. Derek Carr finished the game with 183 passing yards and two touchdowns. Alvin Kamara led New Orleans with 80 rushing yards and a touchdown.

New Orleans picks up its third win of the season, while the Patriots start the season 1-4 for the first time since 2000.

Houston Texans @ Atlanta Falcons 18:19

Desmond Ridder leads the Falcons to victory with a late field goal drive in arguably the best game of his NFL career.

The 24-year-old quarterback threw for 329 yards – the highest mark of his career – and a touchdown. He orchestrated a 56-yard drive at the end of the fourth quarter that kicker Younghoe Koo capped with a 37-yard field goal for the final 19-18. Tight end Kyle Pitts and receiver Drake London were the Falcons’ most active pass receivers, with 87 and 78 receiving yards each.

C.J. Stroud continued the historic start in his NFL career. The rookie broke the record for most pass attempts to start a career in the game against the Falcons. Houston, however, only managed a single touchdown in the end – the Texans are still struggling, especially in the red zone.

The Falcons earned their third win of the season, while the Texans suffered their third loss of the season.

Carolina Panthers @ Detroit Lions 24:42

Clear affair in Detroit: The Lions dominate the duel against the Carolina Panthers and record their fourth win of the season, while Carolina is now the only winless team in the NFL.

Especially over the ground the Lions proved to be superior. David Montgomery ran for 109 yards, including a 42-yard touchdown to make it 7-0 early, and backup running back Craig Reynolds and quarterback Jared Goff also each scored a rushing touchdown.

But Dan Campbell’s team also excelled in the passing game despite the absence of Amon-Ra St Brown through injury. Goff had a near perfect day, throwing for 236 yards and three touchdowns – two of them to rookie tight end Sam LaPorta.

On the Panthers’ side, it’s hard to take any positives from their fifth loss of the season. Rookie Bryce Young still seems to be finding his feet as an NFL quarterback – against the Lions he threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw two interceptions.

Tennessee Titans @ Indianapolis Colts 16:23

The Indianapolis Colts win a close game against the Tennessee Titans, but have to fear for their starting quarterback Anthony Richardson again.

In the highly anticipated return of Jonathan Taylor (6 runs for 18 yards) it was another Colts running back who stood out. Zack Moss ran the Titans’ actually strong run defence into the ground with 165 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including a 56-yard score.

Rookie Anthony Richardson had to leave the game already in the second quarter. The quarterback stayed on the ground after a 4-yard run attempt and held his right shoulder – backup Gardner Minshew took over for the rest of the game and finished with eleven passes for 155 yards.

The Tennessee Titans’ offence kept faltering, the only bright spot being DeAndre Hopkins with eight catches and 140 receiving yards. Derrick Henry managed only 43 rushing yards, and in a game-deciding situation in the fourth quarter, the Colts’ defence stopped the Titans running back on 4th-and-1 at the Indianapolis 5-yard line. An interception by Tannehill with 30 seconds left in the game clinched the win for the Indianapolis Colts.

The Colts got their third win of the season, the Titans lose for the third time this season.

Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers 10:17

The Pittsburgh Steelers reap victory over division rival Baltimore Ravens in a hard-fought game, thanks to a rangy defence.

The Ravens took an early lead with a 14-yard touchdown run by running back Justice Hill and went into halftime with a 10-3 lead. The score remained that way until the fourth quarter, when chaos broke out. First, the Steelers blocked a Ravens punt, resulting in a safety for Pittsburgh. Mike Tomlin’s team then scored a field goal to cut the deficit to 10-8.

However, after the Steelers fumbled the ball at their own 10-yard line on a punt return, the Ravens seemed to be back in control before Lamar Jackson threw an interception in the Pittsburgh end zone, giving Kenny Pickett and the Steelers offence one last chance.

Pickett gratefully accepted, sending receiver George Pickens into the end zone on a 45-yard pass with a minute to go for a 17-10 final score, sealed by a Steelers fumble recovery with seconds left.

It was the second loss of the season for the Ravens and the third win of the year for the Steelers.
