The Washington Commanders have defeated the Chicago Bears. The only touchdown of the game was scored by Brian Robinson Jr. who was shot several times during a robbery in late August.

Munich – The Washington Commanders have ended their losing streak. After four losses in a row, the franchise from the US capital celebrated a 12:7 victory against the Chicago Bears.

Both teams had a hard time getting into the game. Shortly before the end of the first half, the Commanders took a 3-0 lead with a 38-yard field goal by Joey Slye. Washington, however, could have led much higher after two losses by the Bears, an interception by quarterback Justin Fields and a turnover on downs. But Carson Wentz and Co. did not manage to capitalise on these situations.

The second half started promisingly for the Chicago Bears. After a 94-yard drive, Justin Fields found his wide receiver Dante Pettis in the end zone. Cairo Santos made it 3-7 from the Commanders’ point of view with the following extra point.

The Commanders also delivered a long drive, but could only convert it into a field goal. With about eight minutes left, Velus Jones Jr. let a punt slip through his fingers and the Commanders were able to secure it six yards from the Bears’ end zone.

Then Brian Robinson Jr. provided arguably the finest story in recent memory. The running back, who was shot multiple times during a robbery in late August, scored his first NFL touchdown to put his team ahead 12-7. Washington was unable to successfully complete the subsequent two-point conversion.

The last three drives of the game summed up the game quite well. First the Bears lost the ball on downs, then Justin Slye missed a 48-yard field goal for Washington.

Chicago misses last-minute win

With the clock virtually running out, Chicago did have a chance to win. However, the referees ruled that Darnell Mooney, after a pass from Justin Fields, was stopped short of the end zone by the Commanders’ defence.

Both teams have a record of two wins and four losses after six games. Next week, Washington will face the Green Bay Packers. The Chicago Bears travel to Boston to play the New England Patriots.
