The Los Angeles Rams have stopped the negative trend with a strong comeback win. Against the Las Vegas Raiders, Baker Mayfield makes his debut and promptly leads his new team to a 17-16 win
Munich/Inglewood – In the Thursday Night Game of Week 14, the vague playoff hopes of the Las Vegas Raiders suffered a severe blow.
Despite an interim 13-point lead in the fourth quarter, head coach Josh McDaniels’ team was unable to pull off a victory against the Los Angeles Rams, losing 16-17.
Los Angeles Rams: Mayfield debuts and turns it up
Leading the way was quarterback Baker Mayfield (230 passing yards, one touchdown), who was signed by the Rams just a few days ago to replace injured starter Matthew Stafford and came in for John Wohlford about ten minutes into the game, put in a strong performance and impressed in the final drive of the game.
With just 1:41 left on the clock, the 27-year-old got the ball and led Los Angeles from their own 2-yard line into the opposing end zone, including finding wide receiver Ben Skowronek (seven receptions, 89 yards) on a big play for 32 yards.
Las Vegas Raiders: Derek Carr with not a good game
On the other side, Raiders playmaker Derek Carr had a day to forget, the 31-year-old completed just eleven of 20 passes for only 137 yards. In addition, there were two interceptions, one of them in the red zone. Even running back Josh Jacobs (rushing 99 yards, one touchdown) and Davante Adams (three catches, 71 yards) could not prevent the defeat.
Las Vegas, with fullback Jakob Johnson on the field for 36 percent of offensive snaps, is now 5-8 after the loss and will face the New England Patriots next week. The Rams (4-9), who have now won six in a row, will face the Green Bay Packers.
