The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have conceded their second defeat of the season in the NFL’s Regular Season. Of all things, a counting error by quarterback Tom Brady sealed the Bucs’ fate.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ second defeat of the season is perfect. Quarterback Tom Brady’s team lost 19:20 to the Chicago Bears in the Thursday Night Game, after already leading by 13 points.
In the decisive final phase Brady made a momentous mistake. 33 seconds before the end he held up four fingers after a failed pass attempt to announce a 4th down. But the six-time Super Bowl champion had miscounted. His failed attempt was already the 4th down and the defeat was perfect.
“I had a great opportunity. But we didn’t do well enough in the decisive moments,” Brady said afterwards, without going into detail about his mistake.
Santos with field goal over 38 yards
Previously, Cairo Santos had given the Bears the lead with a field goal from 38 yards 1:13 minutes before the end. Chicago’s quarterback Nick Foles struggled for a long time to find his rhythm. But with two touchdowns in the last 1:48 minutes before half-time, the Bears fought their way back into the lead. It was already the third time that Chicago fought back after a double-digit deficit.
In total, Foles scored 30 of 42 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown. David Montgomery scored the Bears’ first rushing touchdown of the season after a 75-yard drive. On the other hand, Brady fell short of expectations with 25 of 41 passes and a touchdown.
While the Bears now have 4-1 wins to their credit, the Bucs are now 3-2.
