NFL playoffs 2023: Buffalo Bills beat Pittsburgh Steelers

The Buffalo Bills are in the 2023 Divisional Playoffs. In the Wild Card Round against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Josh Allen and Co. celebrate an ultimately unchallenged 31:17 victory.

The Buffalo Bills have reached the 2023 NFL Divisional Playoff.

Head coach Sean McDermott’s team lived up to its role as favorites against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card Round with a 31:17 (21:7) victory.

Due to the snow chaos in the US state of New York, the game at Highmark Stadium scheduled for Sunday was postponed by one day.

Despite the still difficult weather conditions and -8 degrees Celsius, the Bills quickly got hot. In the very first quarter, Josh Allen threw touchdown passes to his tight ends Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid – 14-0.

Buffalo Bills: Josh Allen extends NFL record

In the second quarter, he added a 52-yard rushing touchdown. It was Allen’s twelfth game this season with at least one touchdown through the air and on the ground – the eleven in the regular season already set an NFL record.

Overall, Buffalo’s playmaker had a passing percentage of 70, 203 passing yards, a passer rating of 121.9, 74 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

The Steelers’ first promising drive ended in a redzone interception by Mason Rudolph.

After a blocked field goal, Pittsburgh got on the scoreboard shortly before the break: Rudolph found receiver Diontae Johnson – 21:7, the halftime score.

The teams traded field goals in the third quarter and went into the final period with a 24:10 lead.

There, the Steelers cut the deficit to 17-24 after a 12-play, 6-minute drive – Calvin Austin caught the second touchdown pass from Rudolph, who finished with a 56 percent completion rate and 229 passing yards.

The Bills responded in the style of a top team: receiver Khalil Shakir carried a pass from Allen through several Steelers defenders into the end zone to make it 31:17 – the preliminary decision.

Buffalo Bills now vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Downer for the Bills: Linebacker Terrel Bernard was injured early in the third quarter and had to be carted off the field. The initial diagnosis was a sprained right ankle – an MRI on Tuesday should provide clarity.

Buffalo will now host the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round next Sunday.
