Jacksonville Jaguars take down New Orleans Saints

The Jacksonville Jaguars celebrate an important away win at the New Orleans Saints in the NFL. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence decides the game with a late touchdown pass to Christian Kirk.

The Jacksonville Jaguars continued their winning streak in the NFL in the difficult away game at the New Orleans Saints. In the Thursday Night Game of Week 7, the team led by quarterback Trevor Lawrence won 31-24 (17-6) and celebrated the fourth consecutive victory.

With a record of 5-2, the Jaguars clearly lead the AFC South. The Saints, on the other hand, stand at 3-4 and may have to drop out of the tight NFC South for the time being if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2) win their divisional duel against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

The Jaguars struggled in the passing game for long stretches, with Lawrence finishing 20 of 29 passing for 204 yards and a touchdown. A not insignificant portion of the statline came on the decisive play with three minutes left in the game, when Lawrence took his receiver Christian Kirk into the end zone on a 44-yard pass.

Running back Travis Etienne was the star of the game in the first half, scoring the first two touchdowns of the game. The Saints, on the other hand, managed only two field goals, which is why the score was 17-6 going into the break.

In the second half, the hosts got as close as eight points with another field goal and managed to stop the Jaguars’ following drive right away. On the Saints’ ensuing drive, quarterback Derek Carr threw the ball deep in his own half at 3rd & 10 right into the arms of defender Foyesade Oluokun, who took the ball into the end zone for a pick six.

Despite the setback, the Saints battled back with two touchdowns by Taysom Hill and Michael Thomas, but the Jaguars and Kir had the final say. Carr completed 33 of his 55 passes and gained 301 yards of space. For the Saints, Alvin Kamara stood out with 153 scrimmage yards.

The tragic figure for the Saints was tight end Foster Moreau, who dropped a touchdown in the end zone in the closing stages to potentially tie the game.
