The Tennessee Titans have added to the Kansas City Chiefs’ woes. The New England Patriots have an easy game with the New York Jets. And the Baltimore Ravens’ winning streak is coming to an end. ran summarises the 7 p.m. games.
Kansas City Chiefs at Tennessee Titans 3:27
The crisis of the Kansas City Chiefs has come to a head. The 3:27 against the Tennessee Titans was already the fourth defeat in the seventh game. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a desolate game. He completed only 20 of his 35 passes for 206 yards, couldn’t lead his offence to a single touchdown and fumbled the ball twice.
The Titans completed their first drive with a trick play: Running back Derrick Henry threw a touchdown pass to MyCole Pruitt after a direct snap. The second offensive drive was also successful. This time, quarterback Ryan Tannehill fed wide receiver A.J. Brown in the end zone.
Impressively, Tannehill’s first ten pass attempts were all successful. In the end, 21 of his 27 passes went for 270 yards, a touchdown and an interception;
Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs’ playmaker, never really got into the game and threw an interception when trailing 0:17. The result: Tannehill ran for a touchdown.
But that wasn’t enough: Mahomes also committed a fumble on the following drive. This time the Titans used the good starting position for a field goal, so that it went into the break with a score of 27:0. In the second half, the Chiefs only managed one field goal.
The Titans stand at five wins and two losses after this surprisingly clear triumph.
Carolina Panthers at New York Giants 3:25
The fall of the Carolina Panthers continues. The 3:25 at the New York Giants was already the fourth defeat in a row after the team had started the season spectacularly with three victories.
After the Giants got to the opponent’s 1-yard line in the first quarter and still failed to score a touchdown, the defence provided New York’s first points on a safety. This resulted from a mistake by Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold, who committed an intentional grounding in his own end zone.
New York used the following drive for a field goal to take a 5:3 lead. This was also the halftime score;
In the second half of the game, the Panthers’ offence continued to be harmless. After only 111 passing yards, Darnold was taken out of the game and replaced by backup P.J. Walker. However, this did not bring any improvement. On the contrary: Walker completed only three of his 14 passes.
Daniel Jones, the Giants’ quarterback, had 203 passing yards and one touchdown pass. On defence, Azeez Ojulari excelled with 2.5 sacks. The Giants stand at two wins and five losses after the home win.
New York Jets at New England Patriots 13:54
The New England Patriots were clearly superior in the division duel with the New York Jets. The Patriots needed less than seven minutes to take an early 14-0 lead. The first touchdown resulted from a trick play in which wide receiver Kendrick Bourne threw a touchdown pass.
For the Jets, quarterback Zach Wilson had to leave the field in the second quarter due to a knee injury. Backup Mike White threw a touchdown on his first pass attempt, but also threw two interceptions in the rest of the game. The game was already almost decided at half-time with a score of 31:7 for the Patriots.
Patriots quarterback Mac Jones recorded 307 passing yards and two touchdown passes. German fullback Jakob Johnson was not only effective with his blocks, but also caught two passes with a gain of space for 32 yards.
The Patriots stand at a 3-4 record, while the Jets have won just one of their previous six games.
Atlanta Falcons at Miami Dolphins 30:28
The Atlanta Falcons won in a completely crazy game thanks to a successful field goal by Younghoe Koo. However, the match winners were quarterback Matt Ryan (336 YDS, 2 TD, 1 INT) and tight end Kyle Pitts (163 yards). Dolphins playmaker Tagovailoa had ups and downs with 291 passing yards, four touchdown passes and two interceptions.
The Dolphins got off to a good start as the first drive ended directly with a touchdown pass from Tagovailoa to Isaiah Ford. After that, however, they initially let the game out of their hands and were already behind with 7:20 at the beginning of the third quarter.
Miami came back to within 14:20. But then things got curious: After Xavien Howard caught an interception for Miami, Tagovailoa also threw an interception on the very next play. The Falcons used the good field position to score a touchdown – 27:14 for Atlanta.
But whoever thought that this would be the preliminary decision was wrong. In the middle of the fourth period, the Dolphins reduced the deficit to 21:27. Two minutes before the end of the game, Miami even took the lead with a touchdown pass from Tagovailoa to Mack Hollins.
However, there was enough time for Atlanta’s offence to turn the game around again with a field goal on the final play of the game. The Falcons stand at a 3:3 record, the Dolphins at a desolate 1:6.
Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens 41:17
The Cincinnati Bengals couldn’t be stopped by the Baltimore Ravens and celebrated their fifth win in the seventh game.
Quarterback Joe Burrow delivered an outstanding game. His record: 416 passing yards and three touchdown passes with only one interception. His former college mate Ja’Marr Chase was once again his favourite playmaker. The wide receiver caught passes for 201 yards and a touchdown. The most noticeable player on defence was Sam Hubbard with 2.5 sacks.
Lamar Jackson, the Ravens’ playmaker, recorded 257 passing yards, one touchdown pass and 87 rushing yards. The loss ended a five-game winning streak for Baltimore.
