Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell is the hero of the Monday Night Game with a late field goal. The Chicago Bears wake up too late after three weak quarters with many mistakes and only almost make the comeback.
Munich – In a nail-biting final period of the Monday Night Game, the Pittsburgh Steelers narrowly kept the upper hand against the Chicago Bears with 29:27.
Kicker Chris Boswell became the celebrated player with a late field goal with 26 seconds left on the clock.
Bears explode late after long deep slumber
For a long time it looked like a deserved and clearer victory for the Steelers after the Bears trailed 20-6 early in the fourth quarter. Despite the return of previously injured running back David Montgomery, the league’s weakest offence failed to put more pressure on the Steelers. Even a strong final quarter with 21 points was not enough.
The Steelers rookies were particularly reliable. While Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth contributed two touchdowns to the victory, running back Najee Harris scored a touchdown for the fifth game in a row.
Steelers: Ben Roethlisberger controls the game again
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger confirmed his consistent performance in recent weeks against the Bears by putting his kicker Boswell in position to kick the final field goal under pressure. “Big Ben” went without an interception against the Bears defence, completing 21 of 30 passes for 205 yards.
His counterpart Justin Fields topped that with 291 passing and 45 rushing yards, but threw an interception as well as a touchdown to Darnell Mooney. He again couldn’t get his kicker, Cairo Santos, close enough to the opponent’s end zone in time, so he failed on his final field-goal attempt from a difficult 65 yards.
The Bears (3-6) are off next week before hosting the Baltimore Ravens at home. The Steelers (5-3) play at home against the Detroit Lions in NFL Week 10.
