Two games go into overtime. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the San Francisco 49ers win highly emotional games. The Detroit Lions, on the other hand, are back on the losing track. ran summarises the 10 p.m. games.
Buffalo Bills at Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27:33 n.O.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had to shake for the win after an outstanding first half and squandered a 21-point lead in the meantime.
After the first drives of both teams were unsuccessful, the Buccaneers provided the first points. Running back Leonard Fournette ran 47 yards into the end zone. At the beginning of the second quarter, Tampa Bay increased the lead to 10-0 with a field goal.
The Bills then got to their opponent’s 3-yard line, but only managed a field goal.
The Buccaneers also proved more effective on the next two offensive plays. Tom Brady threw a high ball into the end zone to Mike Evans. One and a half minutes before the break, Brady got into the end zone via a quarterback sneak, so that it went into the break with 24:3 for Tampa Bay.
Early in the third quarter, the Bills took a risk and attempted a fake punt in their own half, but failed to get a first down. Tampa Bay was then able to start its drive at the opponent’s 42-yard line. Luckily for the Bills, the Buccaneers did not convert their good field position into points.
After that, Buffalo’s strong phase began. Quarterback Josh Allen ran in the first touchdown for the Bills, so that the Buccaneers were only 24:10 ahead. With two touchdown passes to Dawson Knox and Gabriel Davis, he cut the lead to 24-27 with five minutes left.
The Buccaneers’ following drive ended unsuccessfully with a punt. The Bills had 3:05 minutes left to score again from their own 23-yard line. With success: Kicker Tyler Bass kicked the Bills into overtime.
Buffalo got the first right of attack in overtime, but failed to get a first down. The Buccaneers took advantage of this: Brady sent Breshad Perriman 57 yards into the end zone for the win.
In total Brady recorded 363 passing yards, two touchdown passes and a running touchdown. Josh Allem totaled 308 passing yards, two touchdown passes and one interception. The Buccaneers are now at ten wins and three losses, the Bills at a 7-6 record.
San Francisco 49ers at Cincinnati Bengals 26-23 n.o.
The game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Cincinnati Bengals was also decided in overtime. And in a dramatic way: First, the Bengals took the lead with a 41-yard field goal by Evan McPherson. However, the 49ers were even more effective and completed their drive with a touchdown pass from Jimmy Garoppolo to Brandon Aiyuk. This was tantamount to the victory.
In all, Garoppolo totalled 296 passing yards and two touchdown passes. George Kittle was his favourite target with 151 receiving yards and a touchdown pass. On defence, Nick Bosa excelled with two sacks and two tackles for loss. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow finished with 348 passing yards and two touchdown passes. Both teams now stand at a 7-6 record.
New York Giants at Los Angeles Chargers 21:37
The Los Angeles Chargers prevailed over the New York Giants thanks to their prolific offense. The eye-catcher of the game was quarterback Justin Herbert, who threw a touchdown pass to Jalen Guyton, who was in the air for the entire 59 yards. In general he delivered a strong game with 275 passing yards, three touchdown passes and no turnovers.
Mike Glennon, the Giants’ passer, also had his good moments with 191 passing yards, a touchdown pass, a running touchdown and an interception. Running back Saquon Barkley recorded a total of 95 yards of space gained and a touchdown.
The Chargers now stand at an 8-5 record, the Giants at 4-9.
Detroit Lions at Denver Broncos 10:38
After winning their first game of the season last week, the Detroit Lions now conceded another significant loss against the Denver Broncos. German wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was nevertheless one of the most effective players with eight caught passes for 73 yards. Quarterback Jared Goff completed 24 of his 39 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown. He made one interception.
The key player for the Denver Broncos was running back Melvin Gordon, who gained 111 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater completed most of his passes, gaining 179 yards and two touchdowns.
The Broncos stand at a 7-6 record, the Lions at 1-11-1.
