The Miami Dolphins win on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s return against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers miss the comeback at the end due to several interceptions by rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett.
Munich/Miami – In quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s comeback from concussion, the Miami Dolphins celebrated a 16-10 home win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Sunday Night Football Game – and did so without scoring a single point in the second half.
The Dolphins turned it on in the very first quarter, taking a 13-0 lead. On Miami’s opening drive, Tagovailoa threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to running back Raheem Mostert. The playmaker previously missed three games for the Dolphins due to a hard hit in the game against the Cincinnati Bengals and a resulting concussion. Two field goals by Jason Sanders rounded out Miami’s good first quarter.
Steelers score only in second quarter
The Steelers only put the first points on the scoreboard in the second quarter – but they were to remain the only ones for quarterback Kenny Pickett and Co. First Chris Bosswell made a field goal for the first three Steelers points, then Pickett threw a touchdown pass to rookie receiver George Pickens. But Miami’s Sanders also put another three points on the scoreboard with a kick.
After the break, neither team managed another point. Although the Steelers came close to a comeback and thus a win several times, it was two interceptions by Pickett that put a spoke in their wheel in the end.
In the closing minutes it was Dolphins safety Jevon Holland who intercepted Pickett’s pass to Diontae Johnson. After another Dolphins punt, it was cornerback Noah Igbinoghene who made Pickett’s next interception, his third of the night.
Pickett already with 7 interceptions
Pickett has already thrown five, six and seven interceptions this season. Against the Dolphins, he completed 32 for 257 yards on 44 passes. His counterpart, Tagovailoa, totaled 261 yards (21 passes completed on 35 attempts) in his return.
So the Steelers suffered their fifth loss in the seventh game and are 2-5 at the bottom of the AFC North. Miami, on the other hand, now has a positive record and sits in third place in the AFC East at 4-3.
