NFL: Bills coach Sean McDermott defends controversial field goal decision

Bills head coach Sean McDermott justifies the decision to go for another first down on the final drive instead of choosing the seemingly certain equalizer and thus overtime via field goal.

Munich – In the Monday Night Game between the Tennessee Titans and the Buffalo Bills, the visitors had the opportunity to equalise the game with a field goal at 31:34 shortly before the end of overtime.

Visiting coach Sean McDermott instead had a fourth try called. Quarterback Josh Alllen slipped away – the Titans won.

Bills coach defends himself and his players

McDermott now justified his decision, “I owed it to my players. I believe in my players. I believe in my quarterback. I trust my guys. Obviously, in this case, we didn’t get it done, but I trust my players.”

Unfortunately for McDermott and the Bills, the Titans defence stopped the visitors’ final drive. The chance to win or equalise was gone and the game was decided in favour of the home side.
