New England Patriots: Imprisonment averted – Jack Jones acquitted

Jack Jones will not have to go to jail. The New England Patriots cornerback was acquitted of weapons charges. If convicted, Jones would have faced more than 30 years in prison. The 25-year-old had been arrested in June.

Jack Jones breathes a sigh of relief. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office dropped weapons charges against the young cornerback on Tuesday. Jones nevertheless received a suspended sentence and must also perform community service. This was reported by the US television channel “ESPN”.

The Patriots star was charged with carrying a loaded firearm and possession of a large-capacity weapon and ammunition. Jones also did not have a weapons possession card.

Jones had pleaded not guilty. The prosecution is now of the same opinion. They justified their decision as follows: “It cannot be proven beyond reasonable doubt that Mr Jones knew he had the firearms in his pocket at the time of the incident. “

Personal punishment against Jones not yet off the table

Furthermore, prosecutors pointed out that Jones had lawfully acquired the two firearms in the state of Arizona, according to ESPN. Within the required 60-day period, the football player attempted to register the gun in Massachusetts, prosecutors said.

Now Jones wants to forget this incident as soon as possible. “Jack is grateful that this case is settled and he’s looking forward to playing football on Sunday,” his attorney Rosemary Scapicchio told ESPN.

However: The NFL still has the opportunity to review Jones’ status under a personal conduct policy. The New England Patriots have to play the Phiadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
