The Los Angeles Chargers have mastered their duty against the Chicago Bears in the Sunday Night Game of the NFL. Thus, the Californians can continue to hope for the playoffs.
The Los Angeles Chargers have ended their mini-crisis and have brought in a commanding must-win against the Chicago Bears. In the Sunday Night Game of Week 8, the Californians won 30:13 (24:7) in front of their home crowd and with a record of 3-4 can at least still look at the playoffs.
Quarterback Justin Herbert, who has faltered of late, had a flawless performance, completing 31 of his 40 passes, throwing for 298 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Austin Ekeler also impressed with 123 scrimmage yards and a receiving touchdown, although nothing went his way in the running game with just 54 yards.
Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent was unable to build on his good debut against the Las Vegas Raiders, throwing two interceptions but still scoring a rushing touchdown. The Bears are now 2-6 and probably have nothing to do with the playoffs.
The Chargers made it clear early on which direction they thought the game would go. All four first half drives resulted in points, including all three of LA’s touchdowns in the entire game. The Bears trailed 17-0 after three drives on each side – too big a mortgage.
Although running back Darrynton Evans then scored a touchdown to cut the deficit to ten points, the Chargers restored the gap with a quick two-minute drive before the break in the person of receiver Donald Parham Jr.
In the second half the Chargers managed the lead, the Bears could score only two minutes before the end of the game by Bagent.
The Chargers will face the New York Jets next in an important away game for the wild card spots in the AFC. The Bears, on the other hand, travel to the New Orleans Saints in an NFC duel.
