Las Vegas Raiders give away win against Pittsburgh Steelers

The Las Vegas Raiders lost 10-13 to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday night. Against a toxic Steelers defence, Raiders quarterback Derek Carr’s mistakes piled up

The Las Vegas Raiders came up short late against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Game 16 of the NFL. Head coach Josh McDaniels’ team lost 10:13 at the Steelers, ten points of which they conceded in the fourth quarter.

In a tough game, the Raiders’ offence did little apart from a strong first drive that ended in a touchdown. Quarterback Derek Carr completed 16 of his 30 passes for 174 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.

On the ground, running back Josh Jacobs searched in vain for gaps in the Steelers defence. This year’s Pro Bowler collected just 44 rushing yards. Star receiver Davante Adams also paled, catching two passes for 15 yards.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Kenny Pickett turns game around

The Steelers also looked for answers on offense for a long time before rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett put together a ten-play, 76-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter.

The 24-year-old completed 26 of his 39 passes for 244 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Kicker Chris Boswell converted two of his field goal attempts and two others landed off the uprights.

The Steelers defence bared its teeth with three interceptions caught (Cameron Sutton, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Arthur Maulet) and three sacks (two by Cameron Heyward, one by Alex Highsmith).

Las Vegas Raiders: playoffs hanging by a thread

With the win, the Steelers preserve a chance to end the season with another non-negative record under the direction of head coach Mike Tomlin – a streak that has endured since Tomlin took over in 2007. Pittsburgh now has a 7-8 record. The playoffs are also still possible, at least in theory. The Steelers face the Baltimore Ravens next week.

The situation for the Raiders is less rosy. If the Los Angeles Chargers or Miami Dolphins win, the Raiders are officially out of the playoff race.

Head coach Josh McDaniels’ team has six wins and nine losses so far. They will host the San Francisco 49ers on the next game day.
