Ex-NFL player Travis Rudolph is a free man. A court ruled that the former New York Giants receiver’s fatal shooting was in self-defence. Rudolph now hopes to make a football comeback.
Travis Rudolph is a free man. The one-time New York Giants wide receiver was acquitted of murder as well as three counts of attempted murder on Wednesday.
Although Rudolph admitted in court that he fired a total of 39 shots at four men outside his home on 7 April 2021, as a result of which one of the men died. However, the jury accepted Rudolph’s argument that he acted in self-defence.
Travis Rudolph: “I got my freedom back “
According to the report, the men showed up in front of his house to physically attack him after an argument with his girlfriend at the time. Fearing for his life and that of his brother, Rudolph fired the shots, he said.
“I finally have my freedom back. I can live my old life again,” the 27-year-old said happily: “I want to thank the jury, the court and everyone involved. I always knew I had to do what I did to protect myself and my brother’s life.”
Rudolph joined the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2017 and played a total of seven NFL games for the team. In the process, he totaled eight catches for 101 receiving yards.
Rudolph wants football comeback
In 2018, the Miami Dolphins signed Rudolph. However, after tearing his ACL, his time in Florida was over after just a few weeks. From 2020 to 2021, the receiver played in the Canadian Football League for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
After the acquittal, Rudolph said he hoped to play football again in the future.
