Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Rob Gronkowski wants to break Tony Gonzalez’s record

Against the Indianapolis Colts Rob Gronkowski delivered a great game. Now, this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, he has the opportunity to set a tight end record held by Tony Gonzalez.

Munich – The NFL couldn’t get behind uploading highlight clips of Rob Gronkowski on Sunday.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end delivered a strong performance against the Indianapolis Colts, finishing with seven receptions for 123 yards. The NFL commented on the 32-year-old’s performance with “Vintage Gronk”.

“So I’m already vintage,” the Tampa star countered via Twitter after the game. On Sunday, Gronkowski and Co. face the division duel at the Atlanta Falcons. Besides a win, the tight end has another goal in mind.

Gronkowski chases tight end legend

Thanks to his performance against the Colts, Gronk already recorded his 31st career game with over 100 receiving yards. If he manages the 32nd on Sunday, he would set a tight end record held by Tony Gonzalez.

Gonzalez is considered one of the best tight ends in NFL history and holds several records at his position. After twelve years with the Kansas City Chiefs, he moved to the Atlanta Falcons at the end of his career – of all franchises that could prevent the record from being set, at least for the time being.

“I want to break this record naturally,” Gronkowski told the “NFL Network” ahead of the game. “Tony, I’m going to come after you. You hold every other record anyway, so I want to grab that one, also because it’s so cool,” he joked further.

Curious fact: For five years, “Gronk” has been waiting for two games in a row in which he breaks the 100 receiving yards. Tom Brady and Co. shouldn’t mind if Gronkowski ends that streak on Sunday.
