The NFL has announced the contract extension for Commissioner Roger Goodell. The 67-year-old will remain head of the world’s premier American football league through the 2030 season. This marks Goodell’s fifth contract extension.

NFL: Goodell’s Contract Is Tied to the League’s Success

“We are fortunate to have Roger at the helm for the next four years,” wrote Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots and chairman of the compensation committee, in a statement.

According to the statement, the contract was reportedly drafted in collaboration with external compensation consultants and attorneys. The agreement is said to be heavily performance-based.

Goodell has already earned $128 million in the past

No official figures have been released. According to several U.S. media outlets, the 67-year-old is said to have earned a total of $128 million in the 2019 and 2020 fiscal years.

The new contract is reportedly 95 percent tied to Goodell’s performance and based on various financial metrics as well as the league’s success.

Roger Goodell has been at the helm of the NFL since 2006, when he took over from Paul Tagliabue. The 67-year-old has already extended his contract in 2009, 2012, 2017, and 2023.
