San Francisco 49ers beat Seattle Seahawks to advance to playoffs

The San Francisco 49ers beat the Seattle Seahawks in the Thursday Night Game of Week 15 to clinch the division title in the NFC West and advance to the playoffs.

Munich/Seattle – The San Francisco 49ers put an exclamation mark on their Thursday Night Game against the Seattle Seahawks and qualified for the playoffs.

The team led by quarterback Brock Purdy (17/26, 217 passing yards, two touchdowns), who was a safe ball distributor from the pocket, won 21-13.

49ers defence stops Geno Smith and Kenneth Walker

The 49ers were also able to rely on their defence, which recorded five tackles for loss of space and three sacks, among other things, and kept the Seahawks’ rushing offence, led by the recovering rookie Kenneth Walker, from gaining a total of just 70 yards.

Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith threw for 238 yards but only found Noah Fant in the end zone in the fourth quarter and faced near-constant pressure.

49ers: McCaffrey strong, division title safe

Offensively, 49ers tight end George Kittle (93 receiving yards, two touchdowns) benefited from Purdy’s strong performance, while running back Christian McCaffrey once again showed his class (138 scrimmage yards, one touchdown).

San Francisco (10-4) is now a playoff contender, and head coach Kyle Shanahan and Co. can no longer be denied victory in the NFC West. A home game in the first playoff round is thus assured.

For Seattle (7-7), on the other hand, the air in the playoff race is getting thinner and thinner due to the second loss in a row – and the upcoming opponent is the Kansas City Chiefs (10-3). San Francisco, meanwhile, will take on the Washington Commanders (7-5-1) in Week 16.
