NFL – Los Angeles Rams: Stress over Ty Simpson? Head coach Sean McVay delivers a curious PK moment

The Los Angeles Rams have surprised some with their pick of Ty Simpson. Coach Sean McVay casually counters recent rumors regarding a conflict of interest with Les Snead.

With the first-round pick of quarterback Ty Simpson, the Los Angeles Rams have certainly caused a surprise.

Promptly, discussions arose in public and especially on social networks as to whether head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead were really pulling in the same direction.

McVay reacted calmly to the speculation about possible disagreements, however, and joked in good humor during the press conference.

“What do you think – am I angry right now?” he asked the journalists present rhetorically. “We couldn’t be more unanimous in every decision we make. This is my buddy,“ he clarified, taking the wind out of the sails of speculation.

McVay indicated that a lot had gone through his mind on Thursday, but that it had nothing to do with Simpson, but that it happens in life.

”It was never my intention to come across that way, but sometimes I can be a little grumpy,” he indicated.

McVay has Stafford’s back

The coach will, however, continue to rely on regular quarterback Matthew Stafford. “It’s Matthew’s football team,” he made unmistakably clear, even if Simpson, of all people, was selected as a first-round pick.

“Whenever the time comes that he gets the chance to succeed Matthew, it will be on Matthew’s terms. I didn’t want that to ever be misunderstood without diminishing the excitement for Ty,” he clarified.

The goal now, he said, is for Simpson to learn from the Rams’ star player. “I’m excited to add Ty to the team. What a blessing it is for him to be able to learn from Matthew,” he sees a perfect constellation.

Simpson’s draft is considered risky because he was able to gain comparatively little playing experience in college. Those responsible did not advertise their interest, which is why many expected the Rams to add to other positions first.

Simpson is delighted with the opportunity: “A dream come true”

Of course, Simpson is now keen to show that the choice was the right one and that he could one day follow in Stafford’s footsteps.

He wants to learn from both coach McVay and the star quarterback himself. “He’s got the right bite … The guy is a ball of fire. He loves football,” he explained in reference to the coach.

He sees Stafford as a great role model. “He throws the ball with conviction and doesn’t care what happens,” he said, impressed.

For Simpson, the change is a big step, which he sees above all as an opportunity: “It’s a dream come true, a perfect situation. I guess I’m a redneck in Los Angeles, California. I can’t wait to get started,” he said, full of anticipation.
