NFL: “Just wanted to tackle him!” Mac Jones answers Panthers accusations

Patriots quarterback Mac Jones allegedly unfairly tackled Panthers pass rusher Brian Burns in the New England Patriots’ 24-6 win over the Carolina Panthers. The rookie playmaker has now firmly denied this accusation from Carolina.

Munich/Foxborough – The Carolina Panthers were sorely disappointed in week nine of the NFL. In the 6:24 at the New England Patriots none of the team parts worked and now the Panthers also have new injury worries: Besides centre Matt Paradis also pass rusher Brian Burns had to go down injured during the game.

After the game, Haason Reddick made serious accusations against Mac Jones, quarterback of the Patriots. He allegedly grabbed Burns’ leg on a fumble and intentionally injured his ankle. “It was a dirty play,” Reddick said verbatim.

Jones justifies himself: “It’s my job to make the tackle “

Now the 23-year-old responded to the allegations from Charlotte. Speaking to “ESPN”, Jones said, “After I got hit pretty hard, I had to look around to see what was going on,” the Patriots’ No. 10 said.

“I thought he had the ball and then it’s my job to make the tackle. Then when the situation cleared up and I saw the ball was further away, of course it was unfortunate. I never intend to hurt anyone on the field. I just wanted to tackle him because I didn’t know where front and back was,” Jones continued.

NFL investigates incident

As the “NFL Network” reports, the NFL takes a look at the play between Jones and Burns during its routine investigation after each game day.

According to the report, however, the Patriots’ rookie does not face a suspension. If the NFL committee decides that Jones acted in violation of the rules, the most he could face is a fine.

Brian Burns, meanwhile, was forced to forfeit the game after taking another blow to his ankle in the fourth quarter and is questionable for the upcoming game at the Arizona Cardinals.
