NFL – Dallas Cowboys: Jerry Jones Bows to FIFA Ahead of the 2026 World Cup

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has always been a fan of the sun at “AT&T Stadium.” But for the World Cup, he seems to be setting his own convictions aside.

Jerry Jones has always been a champion of the sun.

That’s because during Dallas Cowboys home games, the sun sometimes shines so blindingly into “AT&T Stadium” that the wide receivers often can’t catch the ball.

For example, in a 2024 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, this led to an embarrassing drop by Cowboys star CeeDee Lamb.

Jones, the eccentric franchise owner, has nevertheless strictly refused to install blackout curtains so far.

At the end of 2024, the 83-year-old justified his decision by saying that the low-hanging sun was a home-field advantage. In his typical style, he also backed up his non-existent willingness to make any changes with some very forceful verbal remarks.

Dallas Cowboys: Jones lashes out at sun critics

“By the way, we know where the sun is when we flip the coin. So we damn well know where the sun is in our own stadium,” Jones said at the time. “Then we might as well tear down the damn stadium right now and build a new one. Are you kidding me?”

The tone was likely different in communications with FIFA, the world soccer governing body, ahead of the 2026 World Cup. As “Front Office Sports” reports, the stadium will block out the sun for at least one of the nine World Cup matches played there.

According to a FIFA spokesperson, blackout curtains will be used during one early-evening match.

It is unclear what this means for the upcoming NFL season, however. It is unlikely that Jones will change his mind.
