Detroit Lions beat Las Vegas Raiders – Worries about Jakob Johnson

The Detroit Lions beat the Las Vegas Raiders to close out Game 8, but too close because of two turnovers. However, there are worries about Jakob Johnson, who is in Concussion Protocol.

In the Monday Night Football Game of the 8th day of the NFL, the Detroit Lions got the sixth victory. Against the Las Vegas Raiders there was a 26:14 too close according to the course of the game.

Jared Goff showed improvement after his weakest performance in several months against the Baltimore Ravens in week six, but still not in the form of September. He connected on 26 of 37 balls (70%), including a touchdown to rookie tight end Sam LaPorta. However, he also fumbled a pick six to Marcus Peters on the first drive of the 2nd half.

Running back Jahmyr Gibbs had his breakout game in the absence of lead back David Montgomery, collecting a whopping 152 yards as well as a touchdown (on 26 runs) on the ground, plus 37 yards on five catches.

Leading receiver was once again Amon-Ra St. Brown. The German-American caught six balls for 108 yards, while LaPorta had eight catches for 57 yards. In doing so, he broke a franchise record: no Lions receiver managed to get to eleven games with 100 receiving yards faster, replacing Calvin “Megatron” Johnson.

Raiders defense shines, Davante Adams invisible

In contrast, almost nothing went right for the Las Vegas Raiders offense. Jimmy Garoppolo returned only a pitiful ten balls (out of 21 attempts) for 126 yards. An interception picked off by Kerby Joseph on top of that. He was sacked six times, five in the final quarter alone.

The wide receivers’ stats looked accordingly. Only three players caught more than one ball, Josh Jacobs ended up being the leading receiver with 27 yards. Davante Adams could only catch one ball for eleven yards despite seven targets, he ended up throwing his helmet on the bench out of frustration.

On the ground, Jacobs had one of his better games, which doesn’t speak well for his season so far. He totaled 61 yards and a touchdown on 15 runs. However, there is concern for his pre-blocker Jakob Johnson. The Stuttgart native stayed down first on a punt return and went to the locker room after several minutes, from which he did not return. He is in concussion protocol.

While the defense allowed countless yards, it also caused several turnovers. Both running back Craig Reynolds and wide receiver Josh Reynolds lost a fumble, in addition to Marcus Peters’ pick six.

In week nine, the Detroit Lions have their bye week, the Las Vegas Raiders play at home against offensively equally harmless New York Giants.
