The Seattle Seahawks decide a curious game against the San Francisco 49ers in their favour. The Los Angeles Rams end their negative run. ran recaps the 10 p.m. games.
San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks 23:30
The Seattle Seahawks came out on top against the division rival San Francisco 49ers in a completely crazy and varied game.
The game got off to a curious start: After the Seahawks failed to gain a first down on their first drive, they took the punting formation on their fourth try. However, this was a fake: Travis Homer ran for 73 yards into the end zone.
On the next offensive drive, however, Seattle fumbled in the person of Gerald Everett, allowing the 49ers to start at the opposing 24-yard line. From there, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo connected with tight end George Kittle for a touchdown. Also in the first play period Eli Mitchell got into the end zone and gave San Francisco a 14:7 lead.
The second quarter was a lively affair: veteran Adrian Peterson, who was only signed by the Seahawks on Thursday, brought Seattle back to within 14-17 with his touchdown run.
On the next drive, Kittle caught his second touchdown pass, dancing his way down the sideline to the end zone. “Like a ballerina. George Kittle is going steep today,” praised ran expert Björn Werner.
Favoured by two penalties (roughing the passer), the Seahawks quickly bridged the entire field of play in the following drive. A touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to D’Wayne Eskridge brought the Seahawks within 21:23 before halftime;
The second half continued to be entertaining: Travis Benjamin lost a fumble on a 49ers kickoff return, giving the Seahawks good field position. However, they could not capitalise on this.
Wilson threw what should have been a sure touchdown pass to Gerald Everett, but he couldn’t get a grip on the ball and tapped it into the arms of his opponent K’Waun Williams – an interception.
Accordingly, the 49ers started their offensive move just outside their own goal line. Carlos Dunlap brought down Garoppolo in his own end zone, so that there was a safety and thus the equaliser at 23:23.
In general, Garoppolo made mistakes. After he threw his second blatant interception, the Seahawks took a 30-23 lead with a touchdown pass from Wilson to Tyler Lockett.
Four minutes before the end of the game, the Seahawks could have clinched the game with another touchdown. But here of all places Everett committed his second fumble, so that the 49ers got the ball again and the chance to equalise.
The final phase could hardly have been more exciting: San Francisco reached the opponent’s 3-yard line, but was stopped there. This decided the game.
Garoppolo recorded 299 passing yards, two touchdown passes and two interceptions. Seahawks playmaker Wilson had 231 passing yards, two touchdown passes and one interception;
The Seahawks now stand at four wins and eight losses, while the 49ers have a 6-6 record.
Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers 19:20
The Baltimore Ravens went all in after scoring a touchdown with 16 seconds left to get within 19-20. Instead of scoring an extra point to safely tie the game and go into overtime, they attempted a two-point conversion and failed. As a result, the Pittsburgh Steelers won.
Steelers playmaker Ben Roethlisberger threw for 236 yards and two touchdowns. Both touchdown passes landed in the arms of Diontae Johnson, who totalled 105 receiving yards.
The Steelers’ defence was remarkable: T.J. Watt had a fantastic game with 3.5 sacks and three tackles for loss. The same applies to Chris Wormley with 2.5 sacks and two tackles for loss.
Lamar Jackson, the Ravens’ quarterback, recorded 253 passing yards, one touchdown pass, one interception and 55 rushing yards.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Los Angeles Rams 7:37
The Los Angeles Rams ended their negative run after three straight losses and gave the Jacksonville Jaguars a thrashing. Quarterback Matthew Stafford was at his best with 295 passing yards and three touchdown passes.
Running back Sony Michel ran for 121 yards and a touchdown. On defence, Aaron Donald was eye-catching with 1.5 sacks and a tackle for loss.
Trevor Lawrence, the number 1 pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars, threw for 145 yards. Carlos Hyde ran for the Jaguars’ only touchdown.
Washington Football Team at Las Vegas Raiders 17:15
Washington football team came up just short against the Las Vegas Raiders. Kicker Brian Johnson kicked a 48-yard field goal to give Washington the win.
Quarterback Taylor Heinicke threw for 196 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Logan Thomas and Antonio Gibson caught the two touchdown passes.
Derek Carr, the Raiders’ quarterback, threw for 249 yards. Hunter Renfrow was his favourite receiving station with 102 receiving yards.
