Aaron Rodgers fires back at NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter after ‘fake news’ about self-discovery trip

Aaron Rodgers has yet to make a decision on his future after a disappointing season with the Green Bay Packers. The star quarterback called reports about his decision-making process fake news and took a swipe at NFL insiders.

Is Aaron Rodgers leaving the Green Bay Packers or even ending his Hall-of-Fame career? Even the star quarterback has apparently not yet made a decision about his future and wants to go to a dark retreat for undisturbed cognition.

In the run-up to the game, rumours circulated about when exactly the 39-year-old would start his self-awareness stay. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on Super Bowl Sunday that Rodgers wanted to begin his voluntary isolation as early as the following Monday.

“A-Rod” himself made it clear to Pat McAfee that the reported date was not true, and in the same breath launched a broadside against the NFL’s beat writers and their alleged sources.

“In my inner circle, nobody talks to Ian Rapoport, Adam Schefter or any of those people,” Rodgers is quoted as saying by “MassLive.com.””Just stop the fake news. I speak for myself and I will continue to do so.”

He added: “I have no problem with Rapoport or Schefter. I think they are really good at their job. But when it comes to me, they have no idea. “

Aaron Rodgers: settling score with NFL insiders after fake news report

Once fired up, Rodgers reckoned with NFL reporters’ oft-cited “sources” from within the players’ circle: “They really don’t know. They don’t have people in my inner circle that they can portray as sources. I can promise you this. Anybody that talks to them is not in my inner circle. It’s as simple as that.”

In addition, Rodgers emphasised the background to his self-discovery phase, which is about to begin, but which has not changed as reported: “I’ve had this plan in the drawer for four months, always for the same period of time. So when someone like that comes on and says something that is not true, it creates a story that is crap.”

Meanwhile, it is unclear why Rodgers is denouncing “ESPN” insider Schefter in addition to Rapoport in this context. The latter had not reported that Rodgers wanted to lock himself up for 96 hours.

Schefter’s recent reporting on Rodgers has not brought much new to light, apart from statements the star quarterback had already made himself. Such as that there was a “very real possibility” Rodgers would be traded, days after the player himself stressed it.

Aaron Rodgers settles score with so-called NFL insider sources

The fact that Rodgers explicitly attacks Schefter as well suggests that the Packers star is fundamentally unhappy with the way NFL reporters verify their reports without specifically citing their sources, thereby spreading falsehoods.

“I have nothing against Rapoport, but he doesn’t have anyone who really knows what’s going on in my life. So when he says, ‘From Monday to Thursday I should be in there’, that was never the plan. It hasn’t been the plan for four months. So don’t make up nonsense. I don’t have your number and you’re not going to get mine. You’re doing a great job, but not when it comes to my life, so stop talking about it.”

Rodgers signed a new three-year contract with the Packers before the season, tying him to the Wisconsin franchise until after the 2026 season. More than ever, however, rumours are swirling about a franchise move for the four-time MVP.
