The previously undefeated Las Vegas Raiders suffered their first defeat of the season. Head coach Jon Gruden’s team has no chance against Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers, especially in the first half.
Munich – Derek and Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders suffered their first loss of the season away to the Los Angeles Chargers.
No Raiders points in first half
Carr was unable to confirm his performances of the past weeks and finished the game with 196 passing yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Especially in the first two quarters the veteran had problems to get his offence going.
Five punts and one turnover on downs in the first thirty minutes spoke for themselves. Despite the return of running back Josh Jacobs, the Raiders also struggled in the running game, finishing with just 48 rushing yards as a team.
Herbert convinces again
On the other hand, Chargers playmaker Justin Herbert was once again convincing, throwing all three of his touchdowns in the first half. Besides Donald Parham Jr. he also found Jared Cook and running back Austin Ekeler in the end zone
The outstanding player for the Chargers was Ekeler, who racked up 145 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns. The previously dominant wide receiver duo of Keenan Allen (38 receiving yards) and Mike Williams (11 receiving yards) had a relatively quiet evening.
Waller makes it exciting again
The visitors found their rhythm in the third quarter and cut the lead to 7:21 with a touchdown by Hunter Renfrow. A short time later, star tight end Darren Waller added another touchdown to reduce the Chargers’ lead to seven points.
Ekeler’s second touchdown finally clinched the game with five minutes to go, before Chargers safety Derwin James crowned the game with an interception against Derek Carr.
The win puts the Chargers, like the Raiders, at 3-1, making the Arizona Cardinals the last undefeated team in the NFL. On the next matchday, LA hosts the Cleveland Browns, while the Raiders face the Chicago Bears.
