NFL – Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis on Colin Kaepernick: “Would love to welcome him”

The rumours about a comeback of Colin Kaepernick in the NFL are getting hotter and hotter. Now Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis has spoken out about the quarterback and has nothing but kind words for the now 34-year-old.

Munich/Las Vegas – Hardly a person, hardly a name polarises in the NFL and actually in the entire US sport as much as Colin Kaepernick.

The 34-year-old quarterback didn’t get a playmaking job after his protest knee during the anthem in 2016 and has been waiting for a new job since leaving the San Francisco 49ers. But this offseason, Kaepernick is apparently closer to a contract than he’s been in a long time.

Davis would love to see Kaepernick with the Raiders

When asked about him, Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis also responded positively. “I believe in Colin Kaepernick. I really believe he deserves every chance in the world to play in the NFL again,” the billionaire told “NBC.”

“I stand by that as well,” he added. Mark, as well as his father Al Davis, from whom he inherited the Raiders, have been, or are known to be, strong in their sometimes controversial opinions.

“If our coaches and our general manager say they would love to have him here, I would welcome him with open arms,” Davis continued. Currently, the Raiders quarterbacks are Derek Carr, Nick Mullens and Garrett Gilbert.

Personal conversation with Kaepernick changed Davis’ views

In doing so, the 65-year-old says he didn’t agree with Kaepernick’s actions at first. “I didn’t understand why he was kneeling, I didn’t understand him myself,” Davis explains.

“But when I had a chance to talk to him in person, I realised what was really behind it. I think he’s still often misunderstood,” the Raiders boss continues.

Most recently, Kaepernick had been heavily linked to the Seattle Seahawks, who may select a rookie quarterback in the draft.

Whether Kaepernick will end up with a team, and if so, which one, is still up in the air.
