The Indianapolis Colts’ blowout loss to the Cleveland Browns was overshadowed by two controversial fouls on the final drive. Now Colts owner Jim Irsay is trumpeting that the NFL has admitted they were bogus penalties.
It was the most spectacular game on Game 7 of the NFL: the Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns engaged in a fierce battle that was ultimately decided by a field goal. The Browns won 39:38 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
However, the game-winning field goal was more than controversial. Cornerback Darrell Baker caused a pass interference as well as an illegal-contact penalty. The latter even negated a sack fumble by Browns quarterback P.J. Walker.
Now Colts owner Jim Irsay talked out of the closet – and stated that the NFL had conceded to him that the two penalties were wrongly called.
The 64-year-old wrote on “X” that. “The NFL has admitted that the penalties called at the end of the game were incorrect,” Irsay said. He goes on to call, “I think we need to institute that you can challenge all plays – including penalties – in the last two minutes of the half. “
With that, however, Owner may have gotten himself in trouble. As NFL insider Tom Pelissero also writes on “X,” the league’s communication with teams after controversial flags is a common practice.
However: actually, teams are forbidden to talk about those communications publicly. This is the first time such a case has occurred. The Colts, respectively Jim Irsay, are facing a fine for breaking this agreement.
Surgery successfully performed on Anthony Richardson
Further, Irsay also provided an update on Anthony Richardson. The rookie, who had entered the season as the starting quarterback and was performing well, required shoulder surgery
URGENT NFL/COLTS NEWS:
5 QB Anthony Richardson’s surgery today in LA was a success! It was a long procedure and his shoulder injury has been repaired. No new surprises were found during surgery – they just repaired what was expected. Anthony is doing well and thanks everyone…– Jim Irsay (@JimIrsay) October 25, 2023
"The procedure went successfully and nothing surprising was found," the Colts owner wrote. "Anthony is doing well, currently there is no timetable for his return."
For the remainder of the season, Gardner Minshew will call the shots as the Colts' playmaker.
