The Miami Dolphins have won against the New England Patriots with aplomb. Two other games were decided only in overtime

New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins 7:20

The Miami Dolphins prevailed in the division duel against the New England Patriots. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa delivered a decent game with 270 passing yards and a touchdown pass. Newly signed superstar Tyreek Hill caught eight passes and added 100 yards of space.

In the second quarter, Patriots playmaker Mac Jones fumbled just outside his own end zone, allowing Melvin Ingram to pick up the ball and carry it for a touchdown. Just before halftime, quarterback Tagovailoa threw a touchdown pass to Jaylen Waddle, making it 17-0 going into the break.

It wasn’t until the 2nd half that the Patriots’ offense found its stride. New England put together a long 18 play drive on their first offensive drive that ended with a touchdown pass from Jones to Montgomery. However, the victory for Miami was not in danger. Jones recorded 213 passing yards and a touchdown pass, but also lost the ball twice.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Cincinnati Bengals 23:20 n.O.

Quarterback Joe Burrow (338 yards, 2 TD), who was still in the Super Bowl with the Cincinnati Bengals in February, endured a difficult game with a total of four interceptions.

The Bengals trailed by 6 at halftime with 6:17 remaining, but found their way back into the game in the 2nd half. Trailing 14-20, they got to their opponent’s 2-yard line with 1:56 minutes to go, but failed to make it into the end zone on fourth down.

The defence, however, did not allow a first down, so the Bengals got another possession with 1:26 remaining. With two seconds left, Ja’Marr Chase caught a touchdown pass. The ensuing extra point could have won the game, but was blocked.

This sent the game into overtime. The Steelers won the game with a 45-yard field goal on the last play of the game. Quarterback Mitch Trubisky, in his first game with the Steelers, threw for 154 yards and a touchdown.

Baltimore Ravens at New York Jets 24:9

Joe Flacco, as backup to the injured Zach Wilson, faced the Baltimore Ravens, of all teams, with whom he won the Super Bowl in February 2013. New York’s tactics were completely focused on the passing game. Flacco completed 37 of his 59 passes for 307 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

The Ravens were in control of the game without really shining. Quarterback Lamar Jackson completed 17 of his 30 pass attempts for 213 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Devin Duvernay caught two touchdown passes.

Cleveland Browns at Carolina Panthers 26-24

Baker Mayfield faced his former team in his first game for the Carolina Panthers. He struggled to get going at first, but got stronger as the game went on, finishing with 238 passing yards, one touchdown pass, one rushing touchdown and one interception.

The Panthers were even on the winning track until the Browns turned the game around with a 58-yard field goal with 13 seconds left. Jacoby Brissett, who replaced the suspended Deshaun Watson, could only convince to a limited extent with 147 passing yards and one touchdown pass. Nick Chubb, however, gained a lot of space with 141 rushing yards.

New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons 27:26

The New Orleans Saints won the game by a 53-yard field goal with 23 seconds left. Quarterback Jameis Winston was very reliable with 269 passing yards, two touchdown passes and no turnovers. All-rounder Taysom Hill ran for 81 yards and a touchdown.

Marcus Mariota, in his first game as Falcons quarterback, completed 20 of 33 passes for 215 yards and got into the end zone once. Running back Cordarrelle Patterson rushed for a strong 120 yards and a touchdown.

Philadelphia Eagles at Detroit Lions 38:35

German wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown caught a touchdown pass and returned it 64 yards for a gain, but still suffered a loss with the Lions. Quarterback Jared Goff threw for 215 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Detroit’s most notable player was running back D’Andre Swift with 144 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (243 passing yards, 1 rushing touchdown) worked especially well in conjunction with A.J. Brown, who caught passes for 155 yards.

Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans 20:20 n.O.

The Indianapolis Colts rallied from a 17-point deficit in the final quarter to go into overtime without a winner. Veteran quarterback Matt Ryan proved his quality with 352 passing yards and a touchdown pass, but also threw an interception. Other effective players for the Colts offence were Jonathan Taylor (161 Rushing Yards, 1 TD) and Michael Pittman Jr (121 Receiving Yards, 1 TD).

The often underrated Texans quarterback Davis Mills delivered a decent game with 240 passing yards, two touchdown passes and only one fumble.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Washington Commanders 22:28

Quarterback Carson Wentz provided plenty of spectacle in his first game for Washington with 313 passing yards and four touchdown passes, but also allowed himself two interceptions. Two of his touchdown passes ended up in the arms of Jahan Dotson.

Jaguars playmaker Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1 pick in 2021, threw passes for 275 yards, a touchdown and an interception. His favourite receiving station was Christian Kirk with 117 receiving yards.
