Buffalo Bills take down Miami Dolphins in four-hour thriller

The Buffalo Bills prevail in the Wild Card Round against the Miami Dolphins. After everything seems to be going for the Bills at first, the Dolphins fight their way back multiple times.

In a tremendously exciting Wild Card Round game that lasted nearly four hours, the Buffalo Bills downed the Miami Dolphins 34-31.

While the Bills started the game strong in sub-zero temperatures and seemed to live up to their role as favourites, the Dolphins never gave up and fought back several times.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen totalled 352 passing yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions.

Who the Bills will play in the Divisional Round has yet to be determined. If the Cincinnati Bengals beat the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo will play Cincinnati. If the Ravens beat the Bengals, the Bills will play the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Dolphins: Skylar Thompson with two interceptions

With Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa out and his replacement Teddy Bridgewater (dislocated pinky) only banged up on the sidelines, third-string quarterback Skylar Thompson had to step up. The rookie finished with 220 passing yards, throwing for one touchdown with two interceptions.

Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who suffered a cardiac arrest in the game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Jan. 2, did not watch the game in the stadium but was rooting for his colleagues from home.

Bills start the game strong

Everything seemed to be going for the Bills at the start of the game. Touchdowns by tight end Dawson Knox and running back James Cook gave Buffalo the lead, and a field goal by kicker Tyler Bass extended the lead to 17-0.

But then Bills quarterback Allen began to falter, making his first interception. Kicker Jason Sanders brought the Dolphins back in this phase with three field goals in a short time. When Allen threw the ball to the opponent for the second time a short time later, the Dolphins evened the score at 17:17 on the next drive through tight end Mike Gesicki.

Dolphins fight their way back

The game now swung back and forth. First the Bills scored on a field goal, then right after the break Allen lost the ball on a sack. Defensive end Zach Sieler picked up the ball and gave the Dolphins the lead for the first time.

Now it was Thompson who made an interception. Allen then scored two touchdowns with passes to receivers Colt Beasley and Gabriel Davis.

But the Dolphins did not give up again and reduced the score to 31:34 through receiver Cedrick Wilson. Miami tried to equalise again until the end, but could not score any more points.
