Kirk Cousins tragically tore his Achilles tendon. Tips came from, of all people, his longtime rival Aaron Rodgers, who suffered the same injury.
It was a shock moment for the Minnesota Vikings, but mostly for Kirk Cousins himself.
More or less without opponent interference, the 35-year-old tore his Achilles tendon on Game 8 of the NFL and limped off the field.
Seven weeks earlier, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a former division rival of the Vikings with the Green Bay Packers, had to leave the field with the same injury.
“A-Rod” has been rehabbing for weeks and is progressing remarkably quickly.
Rodgers feel for Cousins: “I’m incredibly sorry “
During his weekly appearance on the “Pat McAfee Show,” the 39-year-old spoke about his position mate’s injury. “It’s bad, of course. Really bad. I’m incredibly sorry for him,” the Jets playmaker expressed sympathy.
“I was just talking to him a minute ago – and hopefully giving him some encouragement,” Rodgers says: “He’s been playing very very well, and obviously this injury is incredibly disappointing for him.”
The Vikings had just found their offensive flow with Cousins, most recently winning two games against the San Francisco 49ers and Packers.
Rodgers provides rehab tips: “What worked for me… “
While talking to his colleague, he also offered tips, as he revealed on former cult puncher McAfee’s show. “I gave him all the information I have too and told him what has worked for me so far.”
“Because my rehab is going so well and I’m ahead of schedule, of course people want to know what I’m doing. And I’m happy to pass that along,” the four-time MVP elaborated.
While there is no hope whatsoever for Cousins to play again this season, the Jets quarterback is leaving the door open for a lightning return. However, he admitted, “A lot has to happen for that to happen. “
