Washington Commanders: Takeover by Josh Harris officially approved

The sale of Washington Commanders to a group led by businessman Josh Harris has been sealed. This ends the era of the controversial owners Dan and Tanya Snyder.

The Washington Commanders can start into a new era. As the NFL team owners’ meeting unanimously decided on Friday, the sale of the Commanders to a group around businessman Josh Harris may officially go ahead.

Harris had already reached an agreement with the previous owners Dan and Tanya Snyder in May. According to the agreement, Harris and his partners will pay a total of $6.05 billion for the franchise. “Congratulations to Josh Harris and his impressive partners,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement.

Goodell continued, “Josh will be a great addition to the NFL. He has a remarkable record in business, sports and his communities. The diverse group Josh has assembled stands out for their business acumen and strong ties to Washington, and we welcome them to the NFL as well. “

Washington Commanders: Dan Snyder era is over

Harris is already deeply entrenched in US sports. Among others, his portfolio includes the Philadelphia 76ers basketball franchise and the New Jersey Devils ice hockey team

The acquisition of the Commanders by Harris and his partners ends one of the most controversial ownership relationships in the NFL in recent years. Snyder was accused of sexual misconduct by a former employee, and also allegedly created a “toxic work environment” during his tenure.

In July 2021, Snyder and the team were fined ten million dollars. Currently, former prosecutor Mary Jo White is still investigating possible financial misconduct. Snyder will pay the league $60 million in compensation for the investigation.
