Notable statements from Travis Kelce: The Kansas City Chiefs tight end is convinced that the vast majority of NFL stars resort to marijuana.
Travis Kelce has raised eyebrows with remarkable statements about drug use in the NFL. The Kansas City Chiefs star estimates that 50 to 80 percent of players use marijuana. He told “Vanity Fair”.
This is made possible by a change in the league’s rules, which came into force in 2021. Since then, players are only tested for the drug during a two-week window before the start of training camps in the summer.
“If you stop in the middle of July, you’re fine,” Kelce said of marijuana use. “Some guys stop a week before and still pass the tests because they’re training in the heat, sweating their butts off. Hardly anyone gets punished for it anymore,” the 33-year-old tight end believes.
Kelce was suspended in 2010 for marijuana use
Kelce himself has a messy history with cannabis. In 2010, he was suspended for an entire year by the University of Cincinnati after testing positive for marijuana. “I was so embarrassed, I didn’t want to look at anybody,” he confessed.
As recently as May, former running back Le’Veon Bell admitted on the “Steel Here” podcast to regularly using marijuana before NFL games. “I smoked, went out and ran for 150 yards and two [touchdowns],” he said.
