New England Patriots: Bill Belichick backs Mac Jones.

Internal tensions reportedly arose at the New England Patriots during the offseason. Head coach Bill Belichick reportedly tried to trade Mac Jones. However, he is now backing his quarterback.

By Patriots standards, it’s been a troubled few weeks in New England.

First the disappointing performance in the 2022 season (8-9), then the inglorious departure of offensive coordinator Matt Patricia, and most recently Bill Belichick was reportedly upset with his quarterback Mac Jones for seeking outside help during that season.

Now the head coach commented on the rumors – and backed up his playmaker.

Belichick has “absolute” confidence in Jones

When asked if he still had the same confidence in Jones as he did after his rookie season, Belichick said, “Absolutely.” As you know him always short tempered. He added, “He’s been our quarterback for two years. “

The Alabama alum doesn’t have a free pass, however. “I tell the team every year that everybody has to prove themselves all over again. Every player, every coach, everybody. What 2022 was doesn’t count anymore, now it’s 2023,” the longtime head coach said after the draft.

Jones had a rough season in that 2022, finishing with just 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. League-wide, however, his situation with Offensive Coordinator Patricia, who actually comes from the defensive side of the ball, was viewed critically.

The new offensive coordinator, Bill O’Brien, has already promised Jones a “fresh new start. “
