Denver Broncos: Russell Wilson frustrated after defeat – criticism from teammate

Things are still not going well for the Denver Broncos, the 9:12 against the Indianapolis Colts is already the third defeat of the season. After the game, quarterback Russel Wilson is thoughtful and frustrated, and a teammate quietly criticises him.

Munich/Denver – With his two interceptions, one of them shortly before the end, Russell Wilson contributed significantly to the 9:12 defeat of his Denver Broncos against the Indianapolis Colts.

After the game, the quarterback (274 passing yards, no touchdowns) was angry about his own performance and expressed self-criticism.

Russell Wilson: “Let the team down “

“It’s very simple – at the end of the day I have to be better and play better. The defence tore their a**** up, we had some important and good drives. At the end of the day, I can’t be throwing two interceptions. I let the team down tonight,” the disappointed veteran is quoted as saying by “ESPN”.

According to various media reports, Wilson was still sitting in the dressing room with head coach Nathaniel Hackett 40 minutes after the final whistle, talking about the game.

The second interception in particular should be a headache for the 33-year-old. With just over two minutes on the clock, he looked for his receiver in the end zone at 9-6 and Colts cornerback Stephon Gilmore smelled a rat and intercepted the egg. A touchdown would have been the winning score, but the Colts got the ball again and went into overtime.

Wilson misses KJ Hamler - receiver beside himself

Wilson didn't deliver there either - on the contrary. After the Colts scored a field goal to take a 12-9 lead, the longtime Seattle Seahawks playmaker led his team to the opposing 5-yard line. On 4th & 1, Wilson looked for his top receiver Courtland Sutton, but missed the completely free KJ Hamler and sealed the defeat with the incompletion.

"We have to finish it. We just have to play better. The defence is struggling A**** off, we have to support them better. I did everything I could. I tore up the A****, the offense tore up the A****," said the disappointed pass receiver, who, beside himself with anger, threw his helmet on the ground several times and added: "It was a good play, we just have to execute it better. I was free. I'm frustrated that we lost."

Some fans didn't even get that, with a large number of spectators leaving the arena by the end of regulation time.

Broncos ahead of key game against Los Angeles Chargers

At the postgame press conference, Hackett didn't quite know how his team lost this game either and, like his quarterback before him, was self-critical: "I feel like we didn't get himin rhythm. That's where we have to do a better job and that starts with me. "

In the coming week against the Los Angeles Chargers, things have to go better for Denver. Against Indianapolis, Wilson and Co. were shockingly weak in the decisive moments, only two of 15 attempts on third downs were successfully contested. In addition, there were once again seven penalties for a total of 49 yards of lost space - already an issue in recent weeks.

After the loss, the Broncos stand at a 2-3 record in the strong AFC West, and the clash with the Chargers should already set the tone for playoff contention. A less erratic performance by Wilson is essential to achieving this goal.
