Overtime and five missed field goals: The Green Bay Packers won a crazy game against the Cincinnati Bengals 25-22.
Munich – The Green Bay Packers won a memorable game against the Cincinnati Bengals on their way to the playoffs. They only won the game in overtime with 25:22.
The team of MVP Aaron Rodgers was not able to pull away decisively at any point, the Bengals around the clearly younger Joe Burrow answered again and again.
The highest lead of the “Cheeseheads” was 22:14, but Burrow, running back Joe Mixon and receiver Tee Higgins came back with a touchdown plus 2-point conversion.
Packers at Bengals: Crosby and McPherson can’t decide the game
Rodgers, who got better and better into the game after a weak first quarter including an unusual interception, had problems converting redzone situations into touchdowns. Instead, kicker Mason Crosby had to go for it for the fourth time with two minutes on the clock in the last quarter, but missed for the first time – so the kicker drama took its course.
The game got wilder and wilder: First Bengals kicker Evan McPherson missed from 57 yards, then Crosby again – the game went into overtime with an advantage for the Bengals, who got possession first but had to give it away again quickly due to an interception by Joe Burrow.
Again, MVP Rodgers and Co. did not make it into the end zone, again Crosby had to kick and again the 37-year-old failed due to his nerves. Cincinnati got another chance to win – again kicker McPherson put the winning kick next to the post.
Packers at Bengals: Mason Crosby becomes game winner after all
The last drive then brought the decision. Crosby was somehow able to turn around a used evening and converted the last field goal from 49 yards. The loser of the game suddenly became the winner.
The Packers improve their record to 4-1 and can continue to strongly expect a playoffs appearance. The Cincinnati Bengals, on the other hand, have to swallow a bitter pill and fall to 3-2.
