NFL: Aaron Rodgers on flirting with Mike Tomlin and Pittsburgh Steelers: “Not angling for the next team”

Speculation about Aaron Rodgers’ future is dragging into the regular season. Before the quarterback takes his Green Day Packers to face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, he clears up at least one hot rumour.

Munich – It is well known that quarterback Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers and head coach Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers hold each other in high regard.

That is also why rumours surfaced again before the Packers’ home game against and Tomlin and Co. that Rodgers could switch to the Steelers next year. Although the superstar did return to Green Bay after his strike in the offseason, a departure after the season is still considered possible.

Also during the game, the cameras caught a scene between Rodgers and Tomlin in which both smiled at each other several times. In order not to jeopardise the successful start to the season with a record of 3-1, Rodgers himself now took the wind out of the sails of the speculations.

Rodgers: “Big fan of Mike Tomlin, but… “

In his weekly appearance on the “Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers explained the backstory: “I’m just telling the truth. When I’m asked about Mike Tomlin, I just answer honestly,” the 37-year-old said.

“If that’s then interpreted as me going after my next team, that’s just wrong,” he continued. “I’m just answering a question about him and what he’s done great in this league,” Rodgers said.

The praise for the Steelers coach didn’t stop there: “I’m a big fan of his. I like the way he speaks to the team, the way he does things and his confidence. I’ve heard nothing but good things about him,” Rodgers continued.

Despite the words of praise, Rodgers’ move to the Steelers seems to be off the table for the time being. Whether he and Tomlin will get together again at some point depends on the Packers’ performance this season. A win at the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday will put the Packers on course for the playoffs.
