The Cincinnati Bengals attempt the longest field goal in NFL history against the Green Bay Packers. However, Packers coach Matt LaFleur thwarts their plans.
It would have been historic. Never before in NFL history had a kicker scored a field goal from a distance of 67 yards. Evan McPherson of the Cincinnati Bengals almost achieved this feat. To be fair, he actually did achieve it. His 67-yard kick landed on the lower bar of the goal post and then fell through.
The problem: Packers coach Matt LaFleur had called a timeout seconds earlier. He essentially “iced” the kicker, preventing the historic field goal from counting.
It was a smart decision. McPherson was unable to convert the retry.

NFL: Longest field goal ever scored in the preseason
This means that former Ravens kicker Justin Tucker still holds the record for the longest field goal in NFL history with his 66-yard kick in September 2021.
However, in the preseason, which does not count toward NFL statistics as it consists of preparatory games, a completely different kicker is the current record holder. Just two months ago, Jaguars pro Cam Little scored a 70-yard field goal against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
