Stefon Diggs was supposed to take the New England Patriots’ offense to a new level as a blockbuster deal. But the receiver may be on his way out.
Are the New England Patriots taking drastic measures with Stefon Diggs? So is his time in Foxborough already over after just a few months? And is there more to it than a party video?
That’s what Scott Zolak believes. Or rather, he has information to that effect.
Zolak is a radio commentator and covers the team’s games, so he should be close to the action. What he has heard will cause Patriots fans some stomach ache.
According to him, Stefon Diggs’ release from the NFL franchise is indeed a topic of discussion.
“I came into the show with the knowledge—not with an opinion, but with the information that it’s a topic of discussion,” Zolak said recently on his daily radio show on “98.5 The Sports Hub.” “It’s actually being considered.”
Patriots: Coach Vrabel reacts annoyed
But what’s surprising now is that, according to Zolak, it’s not just about the video that surfaced this week showing Diggs on a yacht with pink powder.
“It’s not just about the boat,” Zolak said. “Not just the boat. There are other things I’ve heard that raise questions. Are you really into this?” So it’s a question of attitude?
Head coach Mike Vrabel was annoyed when asked about the video.
“We are aware of this and, of course, want to make good decisions on and off the field,” said the 49-year-old. He added: “All conversations I have with Stefon remain between us and the team.” There was no mention of him being out.
Diggs signed a three-year contract worth a total of $69 million with the Patriots at the start of the offseason. He is expected to take the offense around quarterback Drake Maye to a new level.
Immediately after the party video, however, clips showing Diggs doing intense workouts also made the rounds.
Zolak believes that Diggs should not be let go.
“His workout videos look great,” Zolak said. “I praised the videos myself. I know you need diva receivers. I say he shouldn’t be let go because I think he would help Drake Maye, this offense, and Josh McDaniels. Because with him, you would finally have a real, serious receiver who can tie up opposing defenses. And right now, you don’t have a player like that.”
