Nick Foles: The former Super Bowl MVP continues to seek his fortune

Nick Foles remains a wandering bird in the NFL. Since leaving the Philadelphia Eagles, the 33-year-old has been searching in vain for his sporting fortune.

Munich – Numbers don’t always tell the whole truth.

Nor do statistics. Nevertheless, they often provide important clues.

So the numbers on the most pass-happy quarterbacks in the playoffs are naturally skewed. Nick Foles is listed first with 68.1 percent of his throws being completed. However, the 33-year-old has only played six playoff games in his career.

But they have been good. That’s why the numbers back up the impression you got a few years ago: Foles is a magician in the postseason.

Nick Foles: Super Bowl MVP and “Philly Special “

He earned the top name “Big Dick” Nick and the Super Bowl MVP award by winning the Super Bowl in the 2017 season with the Philadelphia Eagles. The “Philly Special” play will always be his, too. In 2018, he made another playoff runwith the Eagles that ended in the Divisional Round. But the magic has been gone for some time.

Just over three years later, Nick Foles is out of a job for now.

Fired by the Chicago Bears after two years of not being happy in the Windy City. This was preceded by an equally unhappy season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In the three years he was a starter, he played twelve times and won only three times. He never really caught on.

So his former magic fell by the wayside early on. That provided fodder for critics who never saw him as more than a backup in the NFL anyway, quickly after his departure from the Eagles. Which, in fact, he was most of the time – with the potential for more.

Where do we go from here?

Chicago Bears let Nick Foles go

The wanderer is on the search for his seventh team – and for his fortune. At least: the Bears aren’t putting any obstacles in his way with the release after not finding a trade partner for a long time. “Ryan Poles has been noble, and Nick appreciates that,” his agent Justin Schulman said of the GM’s dismissal.

That’s because Foles can pick his team, and he’s also available for less than other quarterbacks on the trade market like Baker Mayfield or Jimmy Gaoppolo, for whom teams have to put something on the table in a trade.

Opportunities still exist despite the late timing and a busy offseason, such as with the Indianapolis Colts, where his former Eagles OC Frank Reich is the head coach. There, Foles could serve as backup to Matt Ryan. He could also fill that role with the Houston Texans or Carolina Panthers, he’s even being specifically linked to the Panthers at the moment.

Reunion with Doug Pederson?

For the romantics, the Jacksonville Jaguars would be something.

Because Doug Pederson is now the head coach there. He won the Super Bowl with Foles, and the quarterback earned his strong playoff statistics under his ex-coach in all but one game. Obviously, there is a particularly good fit between the two.

The numbers show that. And as we know, they often provide important clues.
