NFL: Report reveals four favourites to play in Germany – three Super Bowl champions included

The NFL continues to push its international marketing. A US magazine reveals four teams securing exclusive marketing rights for Germany, including an official game on German soil.

Munich – Slowly there is movement on the planned NFL game in Germany.

As the US magazine “Sports Business Journal” reports, four teams are on the shortlist for the German market, including the last three Super Bowl champions.

NFL game in Germany: three Super Bowl champions secure marketing rights

According to a report by journalist Ben Fischer, four teams have secured local marketing rights for Germany for the period from 2022 to 2026.

These four clubs are the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers. The awarding of the exclusive rights could therefore be a clear indication of future games on German soil.

The four teams already known could be joined by several others, with up to six clubs able to secure local marketing rights, according to Fischer.

NFL international: Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers vie for UK

As Fischer further explains, the rights awarded are not limited to Germany, but also to many other countries and regions. The report reveals that the Chicago Bears have acquired rights for the Spanish market and the UK, as have the San Francisco 49ers, who are also looking to gain a foothold on the British Isles.

The Seattle Seahawks look set to get marketing rights in Canada, Brazil will go to the Miami Dolphins, while the Los Angeles Rams are expected to be awarded the Australian and Chinese markets. The Mexican market is said to be particularly competitive: Up to six teams are said to be interested in the USA’s neighbour.

Marketing rights up to 5 years

The marketing rights are to be awarded to certain teams at regular intervals in the future.

The term is to be 5 years. On Wednesday, the NFL will officially announce its decision, the final announcement of a German NFL game is to take place during Super Bowl LVI.
