WFT as Washington Admirals? They already exist

A leak suggests that the Washington Football Team could be called the Washington Admirals in the future. But the Admirals already exist. In Major League Quidditch.

Munich – It’s quite possible that the Washington football team will be called the Washington Admirals in the future. A leak from Tuesday suggests that the franchise from the capital of the USA could announce “Admirals” as its new name on February 2.

The name is considered one of the favourites anyway and is on the shortlist. Although Washington is not directly on the sea, the city has a close connection to the US Navy. The Washington Navy Yard was built in 1799, the Navy Yard on the north bank of the Anacostia River is the oldest in the US Navy and was also at times the largest armoury in the US Navy.

The Washington Admirals play Quidditch

So the name Admirals would make perfect sense. Which is probably what the Washington Admirals team, which has been around since 2015, thought. In the MLQ, the Major League Quidditch, the Admirals go hunting for the Golden Snitch as a founding member in the East Division.

The MLQ is the highest league in the USA when it comes to the sport known from the Harry Potter books and films. Fifteen teams from the USA and Canada compete for the Benepe Cup. So if the Washington football team really wanted to change its name to Admirals in the future, this would not be possible without further ado. After all, the name is already taken.

Name dispute? A settlement would be conceivable

What consequences this could have is completely uncertain. The Washington football team, of course, has not commented so far, after all, not even the announcement of the name “Admirals” is official yet. And the Quidditch team, whose battle cry and hashtag is “CrabClawsUp”, has also remained silent.

But should there actually be a dispute over the Admirals name, it would be conceivable, for example, that the football team would pay the Quidditch team a settlement. This would conjure up a nice sum in the team’s coffers.

And Harry Potter fans know a lot about magic.
