San Francisco 49ers: Trey Lance undergoes surgery after injury – season out confirmed

Quarterback Trey Lance of the San Francisco 49ers has addressed the fans for the first time from the hospital after his serious leg injury from the home game against the Seattle Seahawks (27:7). He’s putting up a fight, but the 2022 season is over for the No. 3 pick in the 2021 draft.

San Francisco/Munich – Trey Lance of the San Francisco 49ers truly imagined his second game as a starter differently. That’s because the franchise’s Week 2 home game against the Seattle Seahawks (27-7) ended quickly for the No. 3 pick in the 2021 draft – and, in hindsight, means the 22-year-old’s season is over.

After only a few plays in the first quarter, the 49ers’ new starting quarterback suffered a leg injury after a sack and had to be taken off the field in a transport truck.

Long-time starter and current noble reserve Jimmy Garoppolo took over for him. Lance hadn’t snagged the starting job from Garoppolo until the current season.

“ESPN reporter Adam Schefter said immediately after the game that Lance’s injury was a broken ankle and that the playmaker would probably need surgery. Likewise, the pundit expected the playmaker to be out for the season.

San Francisco 49ers confirm 2022 season over for Trey Lance after surgery

The San Francisco 49ers confirmed a short time later that Lance had successful surgery on his right ankle, which was injured in the game. The franchise’s statement continued, “The surgery was performed at Stanford Hospital. A fractured fibula and torn ligaments were diagnosed and treated.”

49ers team physician Dr Tim McAdams expressed confidence that Lance will make a full recovery and be back with the team for the 2023 season.

So the 2022 season will be over for the playmaker after just two games as a starter. More than annoying for Lance, who is, however, combative.

Trey Lance combative: “Will come back better than ever before “

On “Twitter”, the 49ers’ number five addresses first words to fans – thanking them: “I really appreciate all your messages and prayers.” He is determined, Lance says, to tackle the rehab process and is sure “this chapter will only make the story better. We’ll never understand why, but I believe it’s all part of God’s plan.”

Lance is combative about his return to the court, making an announcement to fans and opponents alike. “I’m going to come back better than ever,” the quarterback said.

Hopefully, Lance will make a full recovery and be ready to compete again in the NFL come the new season. Until then, Garoppolo will be back directing and trying everything to lead the San Francisco 49ers to the greatest possible success.
