NFL: Shutout for Tom Brady! New Orleans Saints defeat Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a defensive battle

For the first time in 255 games, quarterback Tom Brady’s offense goes scoreless. Against the New Orleans Saints, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a disastrous night after numerous mistakes, turnovers and injuries.

Tampa/Munich – The New Orleans Saints have shocked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers once again.

The reigning Super Bowl champions went scoreless against their NFC South rivals in front of their home crowd, losing a true defensive battle 9-0.

Tom Brady completed only 26 of his 48 passes, threw for 214 yards and had an interception as well as a fumble when he tried to run for the required ten yards on a third attempt.

Bucs fear for receiver duo

For the first time in 255 games and only the third time in his career (2003 in Buffalo, 2006 in Miami), an offence around Brady remains without points.

In addition, Tampa is also worried about its two top receivers. Both Chris Godwin (knee) and Mike Evans (thigh) had to leave the game early. Running back Leonard Fournette was also unable to finish the game.

The Saints, who had to do without their head coach Sean Payton at short notice (positive Covid 19 test), were particularly convincing on defence and virtually never allowed the opposing attack to develop.

Three field goals by kicker Brett Mahler were enough to win the game.

Quarterback Taysom Hill threw for 154 yards of gain. Receiver Marquez Callaway caught six passes for 112 yards alone.

With the loss, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (10-4) will have to postpone their party to win the division title for now. Next week, the Bucs play at the Carolina Panthers (5-9).

For their part, the New Orleans Saints (7-7) get themselves back into the playoff race. Next week, the Miami Dolphins (7-7) await in the Monday Night Game.
