Dallas Cowboys: Why everything is different for Dak Prescott this year

Dak Prescott can fully concentrate on the preparation for the new NFL season this year. After a difficult 2021 rehab for the Cowboys quarterback, a real sense of happiness.

Munich – What a difference a year can make.

In April 2021, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was in an extremely tough spot. “A year ago, I was already happy to be back on my feet,” the playmaker explained on the sidelines of a gala for children with cancer.

At the beginning of the 2020 season, he suffered the most serious injury of his career when he broke his right ankle. At the start of his franchise’s ensuing offseason program, the signal caller’s focus was on getting back to performing the very basic movements with ease.

Shoulder surgery went off without a hitch

“You move your legs for the first time. From one week to the next, you do three jumps instead of two, start jogging, then sprinting. You’re excited and you can feel the progress,” Prescott recalls.

And continues, “By now, a year later, I’m on the field and not even thinking about my leg. Some days, when I have a little bit of a cold, I might feel it a little bit more, but it’s not a thought in my head or a worry.”

Shortly after the Super Bowl in February, the 28-year-old had surgery on his left shoulder. But that, too, went off without a hitch. “The shoulder is fine. “

Prescott can train properly again

The situation was very different last year, when he missed most of training camp with a shoulder strain and also had problems with it in the Regular Season.

There is nothing left of all those difficulties now. While the quarterback still takes precautions to avoid hurting his ankle, they are more preventative in nature.

“I don’t have to recover from any injury. I can work on my whole body,” the Cowboys pro enthused.

Improve quarterback skills

Finally, Prescott’s upcoming workouts will be about improving his skills as a quarterback and athlete. “I’m wondering if I can run faster than I ever have before. It’s about improving the player I was before the injury and now being the best player I can be for this organisation.”

For Prescott, it’s pure bliss.

“It’s exciting,” he expresses his joy. “To be able to throw balls this morning, to feel pumped up, just the way the leg, the arm, the body feels. I’m really happy. “

The franchise’s official workout programme starts next Monday, yet the star quarterback has been on the practice field for some time – with 20 other players. At the last voluntary training sessions, there were even more than 60 Cowboys professionals on the premises.

Prescott hopes for good season

For Prescott and his teammates ahead of the official start, a big encouragement. “I’m sure everyone will be there. You don’t want to be the one that doesn’t help build the chemistry or what we’re working on. I think it shows the character of the guys we have, and I give credit to the team leadership and coaches for finding guys who want to be here, even though it’s completely voluntary.”

So there is already a sense of optimism at the Dallas Cowboys. Also because Dak Prescott can finally fully attack again.
