The Los Angeles Rams narrowly missed making it to the Super Bowl last season, yet their head coach, Sean McVay, was voted the best coach in the league.

The U.S. analytics platform “Pro Football Focus” has named Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams the best coach in the NFL.

“What makes McVay unparalleled is his ability to combine game planning with team success. As an offensive play-caller, McVay has led Los Angeles to the top 6 in EPA per play three times over the past five years,” PFF explained in its decision.

Particularly impressive, it adds, is “McVay’s ability to evolve—whether it’s the shift from a broader zone-running scheme to unleashing Matthew Stafford’s risk-taking in 2021 or the introduction of a more 13-personnel-oriented approach in 2025.”

NFL: Sean McVay Overtakes Andy Reid

The Rams coach tops this year’s ranking ahead of Andy Reid, head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, with Kyle Shanahan—who leads the San Francisco 49ers—in third place.
